I really hope no one reads this kind of post and thinks, yeah, that’s what therapists do. It may be what online Insta-therapists do when they “perform” therapy without understanding it. It is definitely not what actual competent psychotherapists do.

I was horrified when I learned that right here in New Mexico, ICE asked Native Americans for their citizenship papers. It’s unacceptable. ICE is targeting people based on skin color, without any consideration for the culture of the places they live. Something that feels taboo to say but shouldn’t: therapists must fiercely guard against burnout and compassion fatigue by thoroughly screening prospective clients to ensure goodness of fit on both ends. You are NOT a good fit for all, and it’s critical to know scope of expertise.
