Maiden flight-test of ‘Kusha’ Long-Range Surface-to-Air Missile was successfully conducted from the APJ Abdul Kalam Island off the coast of Odisha today. This test was conducted against an electronic target simulating high-speed and high-altitude aerial threat which was successfully intercepted by the missile system.

The @DRDO_India has successfully conducted the maiden flight test of Long-Range Surface-to-Air Missile Kusha today from the APJ Abdul Kalam Island off the coast of Odisha. Kusha missile system is capable of neutralising wide variety of aerial threats including fighter jets, missiles, UAVs and large enemy aircrafts within a wide range and altitude envelope. Today’s successful test flight of Kusha marks an important milestone in Indian defence R&D. The capability in developing long range surface-to-air missile system is possessed only by a handful of nations. This will also eliminate the import dependency for such systems and signifies a giant leap in air defence capability of the nation. I congratulate DRDO and other stakeholders for this achievement.

A two-day brainstorming workshop on Naval Stealth-Beyond 2030 was organized by NSTL, Visakhapatnam, during 20–21 July 2026, bringing together key stakeholders from DRDO, Indian Navy, Defence Shipyards and Industry to deliberate on future directions in naval stealth technologies. The workshop was inaugurated by Dr. R V Hara Prasad, DG(NS&M) on 20th July in the presence of R Adm Sujit Baxi, DG WDB, and Director, NSTL. During the workshop, NSTL handed over Technology for Fabrication, Installation & Commissioning of the LM2500 Gas Turbine Infrared Suppression System for Naval Vessel to BHEL Over 125 delegates representing DRDO Laboratories, Indian Navy, Defence Shipyards, and Industry attended the workshop. Technical sessions covered a broad spectrum of topics, including Radar Cross Section, Infrared Signature Management, Acoustic Stealth, ELFE and Magnetic Signatures, Integrated Multi-Spectral Stealth Concepts, and Future Naval Stealth Technologies Beyond 2030.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between DIPAS, DRDO and AIIMS Bhopal for collaborative research, academic exchange and advanced research in the field of human performance. This partnership aims to boost health in extreme environments and develop cutting-edge protective medical technologies to mitigate operational stress.

Future proofing India’s strategic communication networks with quantum technology, DRDO has successfully completed military field trails of a scalable and practically secure, fiber based Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) system. Leveraging their lab level proof of concept and experience of previous trials, the DRDO team with their industry partner, Taqbit Labs, Bengaluru has successfully architected and productized this advanced system to secure critical networks. An outreach programme on the Income Tax Act, 2025, Income Tax Rules, 2026, and TDS-related issues was organised today at DRDO Bhawan by the Directorate of Management & Security (DMS), DRDO. The programme commenced with an address by Dr. Ravindra Singh, DG (R&M), who highlighted the importance of awareness and compliance with the latest income tax provisions. The technical sessions were delivered by Ms. Beenu, Additional Commissioner of Income Tax; Shri Y. N. Saxena, Deputy Commissioner of Income Tax; and the team from Aaykar Bhawan, New Delhi who provided detailed insights into the provisions of the Income Tax Act, 2025, Income Tax Rules, 2026, and TDS-related issues while addressing participants' queries. The interactive sessions enhanced participants understanding of the new tax framework and strengthened statutory compliance among DDOs and PAOs across DRDO. The programme concluded with a Vote of Thanks by the Director DMS.

Pinaka Long Range Guided Rocket (LRGR) was successfully tested for a user defined minimum range of 60 km at the Integrated Test Range (ITR), Chandipur on 08 July 2026. During the trial, LRGR impacted on the target with textbook precision exactly following the predicted trajectory.

Towards building a future-ready defence R&D workforce, Dr. Mayank Dwivedi, DG(HR) inaugurated the DRDO Cell-ITM and the extended POINTS (Post Induction Training for Scientists) program at Defence Institute of Advanced Technology (DIAT), Girinagar, Pune today in presence of Shri MV Ramesh Kumar, Director ARDE, Dr. BHVS Narayana Murthy, Vice Chancellor DIAT, Dr. SK Dwivedi, Director DHRV and Shri SP Dobhal Director ITM Mussoorie. The DRDO Cell–ITM at DIAT will serve as the nodal centre for administrative control, planning and coordination of induction training for newly inducted DRDO scientists. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between Defence Materials and Stores Research & Development Establishment (DMSRDE), Kanpur and Uttar Pradesh Textile Technology Institute (UPTTI), Kanpur on 06th July 2026 to promote collaboration in textile science and technology for Defence and Civil sector. The MoU was exchanged between Dr. Kingsuk Mukhopadhyay, Director DMSRDE and Prof. (Dr.) G Nalankilli, Director UPTTI at UPTTI, Kanpur in the presence of Shri Amit Saraiya, Scientist ‘F’, Dr. Mukesh Kumar Singh, Dr. Supriyo Chakraborty and other senior officers from both the organisation. The MoU enables exchange of research, scientific & technical materials, pursue collaborative research programs in specific fields of interest and sharing of instrumentation facility.

Hindustan Aeronautics Limited & Research Centre Imarat (RCI), Hyderabad signed a Licence Agreement for Transfer of Technology (TOT) for manufacturing of Servo Valves at HAL on June 27, 2026. This paves the way for technology absorption & establishing manufacturing facilities for indigenous Flight Control Actuators for LCA programs.

DRDO achieved a significant milestone with the successful accomplishment of Final Operational Clearance (FOC) for the Indigenous Netra Airborne Early Warning and Control (AEW&C) system, a major boost to the nation’s airborne surveillance and network-centric warfare capabilities. The ceremony was held today at CABS, DRDO, Bengaluru. Air Marshal Awadhesh Kumar Bharti, SYSM, AVSM, VM was the Chief Guest of the event. Former Chief of the Air Staff Air Chief Marshal RKS Bhadauria, PVSM, AVS,VM, ADC (Retd.) and Former Chairman of DRDO Dr. S Christopher was the Guests of Honour.
