People used to talk about climate change as though at some point it’d get bad enough that we couldn’t deny it and had to address it. Covid made it clear that the bigger a problem is, the more tempting it is to believe it’s not real, and the more investment people have in denial.

my hot take— if someone sees it as trauma dumping, you don’t want them in your life. the right people will understand this is just reality and will want to be there for you

@TweetATherapist That was my initial thought too... Like, why the heck is "pleasant relationship with parents" even a metric here? How do we know the parents are emotionally mature, and don't take the kids' differing thoughts and feelings as a personal attack?

My guess would be: “The kids might have learned to advocate for themselves more assertively, but if parents didn’t understand where that was coming from, family tensions might have arisen.” Teens living w/ parents don’t have much agency—so emphasizing agency might only do so much

"The therapy seemed to make the kids worse. Immediately after the intervention, the therapy group had worse relationships with their parents and increases in depression and anxiety." theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/…

Revenge bedtime procrastination with ADHD is a special kind of hell. I am physically exhausted, but I refuse to go to sleep because 2 AM is the only time the universe stops making demands. I am actively destroying my tomorrow just to experience three hours of unsupervised, demand-free existence today

Simultaneously, these pejoratives are misused to describe actual despicable individuals and actions. Bigotry is not "stupidity", it is (wilful) ignorance, selfishness and evidence of being influenced by propaganda. Apoliticalness is not "lazy" it is supine, complacent, complicit.

Alright. Thread time! "Lazy" does not exist. "Stupid" does not exist. Both terms are used to refer to such a wide spectrum of both disabilities and unrelated, wilful and often sordid attitudes and behaviours.
c̷.̷d̷.̷l̷a̷t̷i̷n̷@prepossessingxx

said it before and i will say it again; the only way to even get close to avoiding being ableist is to entirely let go of the idea of laziness and similar concepts. you can not sit around trying to decide which people are the "bad ones" who did not take care of themselves today

I was curious so I did a quick search. According to reddit, "the reason he has a mask on is because he can't get sick before the upcoming shows." Some artists understand our new reality, and others are frequently cancelling concerts.

What many people don’t understand about autism, is that how it presents to you depends strongly on environment and culture. Why autism seemingly presents differently in women and girls, is not because of ”biological differencies”. It’s because of the patriarcal culture.
Edith The Destroyer 🍓@6kawaii6satan6

They seem to be way more socialised and way better at "masking" and hiding their autism. To me personally it's sad cause I know that autistic girls are punished and conditioned to appear this way while autistic men are allowed to run free and look absolutely unhinged.

Do you know how many adults out there have things like obvious skin conditions or scoliosis, that have ZERO idea, because no one's pointed them out? There are a lot. (Massage therapists can't diagnose, but we *can* objectively describe what we see, & then refer out to a doctor.)

@singingsox The majority of the time, anybody who "fake-claims" someone with a disability or medical symptoms might as well have: "I HAVE VAST AMOUNTS OF IGNORANCE & UNEXAMINED PRIVILEGE, AND AM INCURIOUS" stapled to their forehead in bright red lettering.

Faking/exaggerating disabilities or symptoms is a wild concept when our extractionist, for-profit, USA health”care” system enforces a class divide that punishes disability intensely. To be disabled is to be impoverished, either thru legislated poverty or only working when able

i think if i shared my OCD intrusive thoughts many a people would tell me to kms but like yeah…. that’s WHY OCD IS SO DEBILITATING!! it’s an ego dystonic disorder meaning it operates against your true values, and beliefs!! it’s not, “ugh i’m just so OCD about being clean!”
