This is arguably one of my favorite stories. Drew Fortescue made his NHL debut at MSG for #NYR tonight, and he is going to sleep in his childhood bedroom: “I’m going back home. I’ve been staying there — I have a hotel room, but I’ve been going home most of the time. Just gonna be able to hangout with my parents, this is the most I’ve been home and honestly, the practice facility is the closest rink to my house probably. So, pretty lucky and special to be here and being that close to home and being able to stay there is — it’s really special.”

Hoping a lot of these guys find homes at some of the smaller D1 schools.

As an alum of the program, I am so disappointed in the University. Decades of hard work undone with one short-sighted decision. As a coach who is all too familiar with having a program cut, my heart breaks for the players and staff. Hurst Hockey Family✊🏼☘️

& btw, all of these programs have the hockey program to thank for doing the heavy lifting since 1998.

Financial challenges don’t happen overnight. They build quietly until they don’t. And when institutions push themselves to the edge and only react when it’s too late, that’s not leadership. That’s damage control. That’s selfish. Shame on you, @MercyhurstU @HurstAthletics
