I’m here questioning why I love studying the past & the way I’ve leaned into it. As I watch mad men strive for legacy, deceive everyone, aim for longevity, I realise so much of what we idolise is the result of narcissistic maniacal males. The past is beautiful. We need open eyes.

@DrJaninaRamirez This isn’t a secular religion though, it isn’t NHS or USA style cash up front., we could have better results from same input by adopting European style insurance schemes

the fact that the only famous female working-class historian on telly is a parody character who is intentionally stupid...the amount of comments I've had saying "I've found the real Philomena Cunk!" bc of my accent (which isn't even that broad because I have a 'camera voice')...it's like the concept of a working-class, northern, female historian is intrinsically funny, such an absurdity to the conventional image of a historian to be humorous. Does Cunk only 'work' as a joke because she 'sounds' stupid? Would she 'sound' stupid if she had a different accent? Not to be the historian friend who is too woke or anything but I am starting to Notice...

Some presidents got PhDs, went to Harvard and Yale, educated themselves and learned from others. You did an internet quiz on which Potter house you’d be in and are DEFINITELY the cleverest little soldier in the room. (Oh actually, you’re not, as you dodged that too)

Trump: I don't want a stupid person being president, you know, I'll say it right now. I'm the only president that ever took a cognitive test. I took it 3 times. It's actually a very hard test for a lot of people. It wasn't hard for me

Admit it: Your kid mispronounced a word three years ago and now the whole family says it that way. What's the word in your house? (We still say 'pasketti' and I’m not stopping anytime soon.)

So kind of Paul to write this, put it in an envelope, stick on a stamp & send it to me. Moments like this make everything feel worth it. If you admire someone’s work, their book, their programme, tell them. It’s easy to spread hate. Love takes effort!!! ❤️❤️❤️

This might not be the right platform/time for this post, but I want to share some light. After a year travelling the world, followed by 5 months going around the UK I am filled with love & respect for most people. A kind exchange in a supermarket turns into a friendship…

Shame quite a few of them are running the world. I guess the price for being rich and powerful is having to suspend your basic humanity, morality and kindness. The many many good people out there - we are the majority and I see you xxxxx

A drink with a stranger in a pub can put the world to rights. Simply moving about the UK people are polite, say please, thank you, a lot of ‘sorrys’ (even when no one has done anything). 99.9% of my interactions with humans are good. Only a fraction of people are true arseholes.
