That means the CDC STD Labs that studies and monitors resistance in gonorrhea, syphilis, and chlamydia have all been closed, the staff scientist who work there fired. It means that we no longer have visibility on antibiotic resistance in those infections or any help to develop new diagnostic tests. Ok so I didn’t realise it was a thing - but this patient had been using methylene blue as a health supplement. Thought it might be useful to raise awareness for those working in clinics - beware the blue-green urine samples!

Genuine urine sample from a young man today in clinic. My first instinct was that two days after St Patrick’s Day he was still excreting dye from some green cocktail or other delicacy. Any other thoughts?? 🤢
