@SandyofCthulhu Based on the replies, I'm pretty sure most people aren't understanding what this actually means.

For those unaware, Surf Dracula is the single most accurate description of how our media has become mediocre. Don't forget it. You see it everywhere.

@Madara10962 @Ninjago9101 No I'm not misunderstanding the argument, I just don't think it needs to need the complexity in order to justify its existence. I don't see having more options than is required as a game design problem, I see it as a player creativity problem. More tools is not a bad thing

@drkwatch @Ninjago9101 You are intentionally misunderstanding the argument. The argument is that the game doesn't need the complexity it has because it isn't built to need that complexity. The games combat isn't built in a way to need most of what it gives you, and that is the problem.

The lowest reviewed score of Crimson Desert is from Critical Hits it's at 45. • Criticism: Confusing narrative & uninteresting characters • Missions feel like generic MMO tasks • Combat has many mechanics but lacks depth

@Herald68870155 @Ninjago9101 For combat, yes, it did have a lot of mechanics. There are countless videos demonstrating them, and an entire gamemode devoted to pushing their limits. The issue was you didn't NEED to, so people didn't, then complained it was boring. But that's a self inflicted problem

@Madara10962 @Ninjago9101 A player playing a game, which is designed for fun, in a way they find boring, on purpose, is a game design problem? Okay

@Madara10962 @Ninjago9101 I only consider it a problem if that's the only way to get through the content. If other ways are as good or better, or just more fun and still work, and people choose the most boring approach then complain I have zero sympathy and it's their fault, not the game design

@drkwatch @Ninjago9101 Isn't that a problem, though? Why have so many other ways to handle combat and such but have none of it needed because basic ass souls style swing-and-dodge works perfectly fine?

@GenePark Is this button mashing and damage soaking in the same way that Final Fantasy 16 was criticised? Because I enjoyed that combat system, so if that's the vibe this might not be a negative for me

@AeresChronicles If your adventure is designed that if they either miss or refuse to engage with the macguffin, the entire thing falls apart with no backup plan, you need more practice designing. Half of DMing is psychology of suggestion, and vague designs you can move at a moments notice tbh

DM advice that so thoroughly ruined an entire generation of D&D that the company is slowly discontinuing their own product. It's taken years for new gamers to shake off their stupor, and they might not fully recover. #dnd

@SIRWilczek @davenport_jl @valueselectTV This is what Session 0 is for, setting expectations. If your players want to run an Xcom dungeon crawl, you run one. If they agree to an adventure and then refuse to engage with the adventure, you find a new group.

@davenport_jl @valueselectTV Even once they are on an adventure, they refuse to "play the adventure game" There is a genre of players that treat dungeon crawling like a game of XCom where they try to constantly outsmart the DM Even if YOU know an ambush lays ahead, your character prolly doesnt

@gloopbastard I'm morbidly curious what the reception would be to a porn game built on the same principles as a good romance novel: good game first, but it happens to have sex in it. Like an iteration on Mass Effect or Baldurs Gate 3

@wizardsspells My friend used ChatGPT to create a base backstory then tweaked it to fit the setting more, but I didn't mind too much since it's her first time playing and she cannot make decisions. Plus she accidentally tied herself to the main antagonist which I found funny, sucks to be her

@ZeroMissedCallz @goboee Wait that's what triggered the bot warning signs? I thought it was the positive reception, but just using slang has been taken by bots now? Damn, we're so fucked as a species tbh

@drkwatch @goboee I was genuinely just curious because of your wording in the sentence (X "is everything," "throwing hands," "no notes") since I see similar phrasing come up from bot accounts a lot.

I’ve always believed that piracy has never been about price. It’s a response to bad UX. We just need to look at how music consumption evolved over the years to see the pattern Music piracy used to be huge back in the early 2000’s, but with the rise of music streaming, it naturally fell off. Why would I want to download 100 songs when I can pay Spotify 900 and access every song ever made? Imagine if you could only access Wizkid’s on Spotify, Burna Boy on Apple Music and Davido on YouTube music? It makes sense to just download it offline and listen. Same thing with movies. Netflix when it launched, reduced movie piracy drastically. It is the fragmentation across multiple services that ultimately brought it back. Anywhere piracy is high, it is usually because there is no easy way to access the content being pirated
Aunty Teda@imoteda

Okay streaming is actually THE WORST THING TO HAPPEN TO TELEVISION!!! I've searched netflix, prime video and apple tv to find a tv show. it's on Apple TV but only with a Starz subscription. This is why people are justifying piracy cause really how many subscriptions do I want?

@YashVardhan6969 Watching this fight and seeing how frequently the floor would look kind of textureless (presumably to emphasise speed) I knew in my soul that Twitter was going to complain about "low budget animation." Hoping I'm wrong
