within two days i have labs and imaging confirming primary cancer with mets. she’s having a biopsy today.
she was terrified because she thought she just had a stomach flu and didn’t know why her eyes and skin were yellow.
or why she felt so tired and yucky.

@YounisJoseph ah it’s almost as if your GPA and MCAT are not the only thing that make you a good physician. plenty of people go through medical school with average or even below average stats and out-perform during medial school.

I hate these graphs because they aren’t accurate at all.
I know family docs pulling plastics money and an ortho doc pulling more doing free standing Locums.
There’s so much nuance AND docs under reporting in these numbers.

Med students may be interested to know that physician compensation varies by specialty, as does time worked per year (based on weeks time off a year and hours worked per week on).

I actually agree with a lot of this report. Crazy stats:
1. Nurse practitioners and PAs who never attend medical school make 2x that of a resident physician
2. Resident wages haven’t changed in decades

The day the Affordable Care Act passed was one of my proudest moments as president, because it meant that millions of Americans would have access to health care, some for the first time.
The ACA also prevented insurance companies from denying people with pre-existing conditions coverage, allowed young people under the age of 26 to remain on their parents’ plan, expanded Medicaid, and so much more.
But the ACA was always meant to be a first step. We still have to do more to expand access and make health care more affordable for everyone.

my classmate in med school studies for seven hours every evening and exercises daily. I used to ask him how did he manage it & he said, "I'm very disciplined". I met his wife yesterday, she told me how she cooked him three fresh meals daily, mowed their lawn, ran all errands, cleaned the house weekly, and handled all social plans. It made me wonder how many times "discipline" means a woman doing all of the other essential work that keeps a life going
