@mattforde @Stuhezza Second The Good Place! Looks on the surface like a standard American sitcom but it's so much deeper. Life, death and everything in between.

Last time I was in hospital, I binged Curb Your Enthusiasm. Then during my recovery I binged The Office (US). This time I’ve started on 30 Rock so that I can binge it during my recovery. I’m tearing through it too fast. What other modern American comedy series are there?

@drkeithsiau Have found it effective in addition to other anti-emetics. Really helpful if waiting for other anti-emetics to work, and good when patients immobilised. Also, little to no side effects so worth a try.

Scene from 24 hrs in A&E. A patient with nausea and vomiting is given an alcohol wipe to sniff to relieve symptoms. While this may sound absurd, its effectiveness has been confirmed in randomised trials and may be superior to ondansetron. Would you recommend this?

@TJCoats Often the only professionals who see acutely unwell cancer patients in ED are usually Emergency Physicians. One of the issues at the moment across the country is hugely long waits for beds (and therefore often very long waits to see other inpatient specialties).

Hmmmm. No emergency medicine representation in a focus group study of the management of acutely unwell cancer patients.
Prof Ollie Minton@drol007

@TJCoats @AshlingLillis @macmillancancer @UKAOSociety @marshall_ernie @BreastDocUK @acutemedicine We extended the invite to anyone who deals with acutely unwell cancer patients - inevitably it’s a purposive sample -which we say - but would be useful to explore the ED perspective specifically but we didn’t get any representation

Why do humans get stuck in Trauma while wild animals recover naturally? In the 1970s, Dr. Peter Levine noticed something remarkable: Wild animals face death daily yet don’t develop PTSD, Depression, or Anxiety. His discovery revolutionized how we understand trauma forever:🧵

@ICMdoc 😞😞😞 I was once told by another senior EM clinician that Emergency Medicine was "an unusual choice for a woman". I told him that the 50% of ED trainees would probably disagree.....

I told this story to one of our local aspiring female intensivists and was so sad to hear she had a similar experience a few years back. Fortunately, she’s now got 4 kids, doing a great job on our ICU and still wants to be one of us!

🔥Have been incensed about something all day…. Women are the majority of medical students in the UK, yet there are still pockets of the medical profession where dinosaurs are alive, well & roam the earth. Turns out my own clinical specialty (ICM) is sadly one such place…. 1/8

@YorkshireTea my lovely little sister has had a really tough year and she's devastated that your toast and jam tea is discontinued. I don't suppose you have any stock lying around? I was hoping to get her some for Christmas so she has a stock of her fave tea to see her through!

Maybe I'm imagining it, but there seem to be a few more smiles on the corridors of the hospital this morning. Time to look forward.

@GlenwrightCook Some trusts do have a pathway that enables this, but needs planning and clear guidance for both clinicians. Lots of situations where it's useful though - particularly in frail, older people where risks of admission may outweigh benefits. nhsconfed.org/case-studies/r….

@LloydsBank I've read you've advised that your staff are not to use the term "widow" and advised "separated" instead. Separated people have an "ex". Our people died, we did not choose to "separate". You are wiping our loved people out of existence by not describing us as widows.

The first time I saw @HewittSusie was during a first year med school lecture. Little did I know then she would go on to be a teacher, colleague, mentor and friend. Always an inspiration, I can’t thank you enough for all your guidance and love. “A cheery wave” goodbye ♥️
Graham Johnson@gdj043

Suddenly it’s Happy Birthday and a VERY happy retirement to @HewittSusie. To say she will be missed @UHDBTrust ED & @UHDBChildrensED is an understatement. An amazing mentor, colleague and friend, to everyone in emergency medicine. We’ll “crack on and see some patients” now.X

Wishing a joyful birthday and a wonderful, well-deserved retirement to the inspirational @HewittSusie ❤️ You have made an indelible mark on Emergency Medicine, and everyone who has worked with you will add a bit of "Susie Magic" to their practice. Thank you for everything x

@Dr_BellaR Most stuff can wait till you're in. A good blow up mattress does until you get a bed (and can be reused as a guest bed). To check fit of big furniture, use cardboard boxes cut to size as placeholders. If fitting stuff into alcoves remember skirting boards will reduce space!
