@Mainefly Either option is flawed. Time zones are political things not related to health or astronomy. High noon occurs at 2pm here because having more time zones is inconvenient for business. Northern areas, Maine is in the south from where I live, do not see the same problems or benefits

@jetwhine To be clear it was over weight for icing conditions, not overweight

Exceeding the weight limitation by more than 1,000 pounds signals a bad pilot attitude and perhaps of the company. Alaska Caravan Found Overweight Before Fatal Crash avweb.com/aviation-news/…

What do you think of my Halloween costume? Some are saying that it's improper.

Help! Here's an ice structure we found in the woods after a night where it was barely freezing (28 degrees or so.) For scale it's about 8" across. What is it? How does it form?

Bad day for @AlaskaAir . One hour after landing and they have not started off loading luggage for 792 due to mechanical issue. No info from them

@AlaskaAir 2 hours 45 minutes later luggage off loaded. Never an announcement from @AlaskaAir . One employee provided what little she was told but she was swamped.

@TienChihMath Tie ribbons to the top and have students analyze the mathematics of maypole dances

@TienChihMath Some of the projects used in liberal arts mathematics have ties to other fields which might broaden interest, for example analysis of visual art or dance.

@evelynjlamb @slcmoves Somewhere in the Netherlands they had push to cross buttons for the bike lanes separate from the pedestrian ones. Useful. The sensors used for cars work by detecting large mass via electrical property (not weight). We cyclists don't have enough

@slcmoves There are so many traffic lights in this city that don't change for bicycles! I *want* to be a dork who waits for the light to change for me! If you can't set up the sensors to reliably detect bikes, what's the harm in cycling through all directions all the time?

@TienChihMath I've been thinking about how to get students to understand the distinction between a function and some representation of it. This is inherently philosophical

Looking for advice...nearly all of the graphics I make involve TikZ. But now I need a torus w/ loops. Something like this: people.math.ethz.ch/~pfeller/figs/… What's the best (free) way to do this, with an easy learning curve? I'm sure some of you do this kind of thing a lot. Thank you!
