@LindsayJS Hi @slcmoves @slcpd why are we allowing criminals to speed and run traffic signals in our city with no consequences? Install speed cameras and red light cameras.

That space could be a curb extension with landscaping, a shorter crossing, and better visibility for people walking. It also means less asphalt to maintain, less heat absorption in the summer, and less runoff during storms. Same street. Same driving patterns. Just better design.

That extra space is not doing much, but it could. This is called a “sneckdown” which comes from snow + neckdown. Snow reveals where a street could be narrowed without changing how people use it.

Snow gives us a glimpse into how our streets actually function. After a storm, the tire tracks tell the story. The blue line shows the existing curb. The green line shows where people are actually driving. Everything in between? Unused asphalt.

@slcmoves I appreciate you clearing the bike lanes on 300 South, but the bus stops on 200 South and bike lanes behind them were largely ignored and are now covered in ice, especially eastbound platforms that get no southern exposure.

🕗Our cold front that will bring widespread valley snow is just west of Wendover (as of 3am). This is slower than anticipated, which means that the heaviest snow likely won't arrive to central and northern Utah valleys until after the morning rush hour. #utwx

*Snow incoming for most valleys of Utah* Snow, heavy at times, will impact the Wednesday morning commute across much of northern and western Utah. Plan ahead and adjust travel plans if conditions warrant. #utwx

@slcmoves Even with the traffic calming on 300 South, someone managed to take out almost all the bike parking near 200 West while also traveling against traffic.

Detours will be in place via North Temple and 100 South. People driving, biking, and walking should expect delays and plan extra travel time. Access to nearby properties may be limited during active crane operations. Crews will reopen the street as soon as work is complete.

The closure is needed to safely assemble and operate a crane at the Zions Bank building at South Temple and Main Street. This work requires a full street closure to protect crews and the public.
