Grant Cardone, founder of Cardone Capital, believes most Americans should rent instead of buy a home. He recently outlined seven reasons why renting makes more financial and lifestyle sense in today’s market. He argues that apartment living offers better amenities like pools and gyms, often at half the cost of a mortgage with current interest rates around 7%. Renters also avoid the burden of large down payments, which typically sit at 20%, freeing up cash to invest elsewhere. Renting also allows for flexibility. A 14-month lease is far less commitment than a 30-year mortgage, giving people the freedom to move for work or lifestyle changes. Cardone points out that renters aren’t responsible for maintenance costs, and they’re insulated from rising property taxes and skyrocketing homeowners insurance rates. Apartment communities, he adds, also make it easier to connect with others who share similar interests. Cardone’s take has stirred controversy before. On a recent podcast, he compared mortgages to “paying rent for 30 years to the bank,” arguing that buying doesn’t make sense if renting costs half as much. His message challenges the traditional belief that homeownership is always the smarter financial move.
