This is an immensely gripping book, reminding us of what we miss when we marginalise the opening 3 months of #WW1 & resolve the Western Front peremptorily into the stasis of trench warfare. Here is mobility, strategy, courage, decision—& some of the worst casualties of the war

Soooo @UKCaffeNero in @blackwelloxford. Had to argue for 10mns to have a @RBS_Help £20 note accepted as payment for coffee & a bun. ‘Only authorised when managers on duty’. Eventually a manager on the phone relented. Leaving a queue of unhappy customers. A disgrace frankly

I voted Labour in the last election. So I voted for a govt that has supported the mass murder of the people of Gaza and the welfare cuts of the people of Britain. I got something wrong, didn’t I?

@GarethMDavis captures some of the #StormÉowyn damage to the forest of the beautiful Cumbernauld Glen where we live—including at least 1 much-prized ancient specimen tree. Alas. Companions since we ourselves played there as children.

I've said this before, but I'll say it again. READING FOR PLEASURE has the biggest positive impact of any factor on children's life chances. So if you want to change their lives forever - make books & reading central to everything you do. And let them just enjoy it! #literacy

So yet again, a tourist wanders into a clearly sign posted no access zone trying to get access to the Tower & gets locked in between 2 security doors & that’s somehow our fault! Let’s just say the riot act was read to them! You can leave by the stairs, or the window - your choice

@thoughtland Completely missed the whole Gavin & Stacey thing, I’m afraid. Have never seen an episode, and suppose I never will, now!

How might one discover whether Scotland’s viewers were as gripped by the final episode of Gavin and Stacey as the rest of the UK?
