@bbcnickrobinson @paullewismoney I'm no economist but as I understand it Osborne cut Friedman style, expecting markets to respond with growth, when economy was so weak the cost of borrowing was at record lows. But Keynes would say Gov borrows to invest especially when economy is weak. So which is Reeves doing?

@paullewismoney True but to be fair to the Chancellor she was talking about her attitude to controlling spending not balancing the nation’s books

This may be the problem. The economy of a state is not like a household budget. Economist Rachel Reeves is in danger of making the same mistakes as the previous iron lady!

Given that we know that coercive control is something insidious and manipulative and that people often don’t realise they have been victims until years later, the Assisted Dying Bill is an enormous threat to vulnerable people. There are no adequate safeguards here.

The contradictory thinking now mainstream in "the west's" economics. The old plans aren't working, new powers are rising, so globalisation is dead? No, that's 20th century protectionism not meeting 21st century trade. theguardian.com/business/2024/…

She knew it earlier than most of us and paid a high price for pointing it out. She’s back now and not for a cheap ‚told you so‘. But to warn us again. That it’s late. But not too late. Rarely say sthg is a must read, but this is.👇 @carolecadwallatheguardian.com/commentisfree/…

Did you think you would live to see a man incite an armed rebellion against the U.S. that killed and injured many and caused the seat of our government to be occupied by insurrectionists, only to get away with it scot-free, with no consequences except for being elected president?

The Economist is right: many Ukrainian officials privately favored a Trump win, seeing him as preferable to Biden’s "self-deterrence." Whether they’re right I don't know, but one thing’s clear—Trump will push a solution on Kyiv, like it or not 1/

12) If like me you wish that more help was getting to the Ukrainian Armed Forces and are tired of waiting for our political leaders to do the right things, perhaps you could consider supporting them directly. The Wild Hornets proved drones to the tropes at the front line, probably the most cost-effective way of helping at the moment. x.com/armedmaidan/st…
