@DanaPalubiak Yeah I had a teacher teaching avid for three years move to curriculum development and now she runs conferences on the weekends. Grand total of 3 years in a pre covid classroom. Come on

I’m noticing something I can’t unsee. The people with the most influence in education often didn’t spend decades in classrooms. And the people who did… aren’t the ones shaping the conversation.

@ivanthegrave @adamboxer1 I think with ai that’s won’t be important. Just critical thinking and ability to create with tools such as ai. Remember spelling tests? Those kids will probably think about us like we remember smoking in restaurants and airplanes. Different worlds

@adamboxer1 Like a first hand account working in factories which most of my students won’t read.

@adamboxer1 These kids now have a context for what life in a factory looked like. You could use historical images but the kids will remember the Asas creed image over the primary source.

Every teacher I know personally is leaving the profession because students have become unteachable. They don’t read, they don’t talk to each other, they have no curiosity, no passion, no interest in learning. Giving kids unfettered access to screens has ruined a generation.

I go to a daily workout class. They model the exercise first, then the class completes the exercise. All of the instructors use the same central curriculum, so which instructor I get is interchangeable. This concept should not be that difficult for schools and teachers.

@TolentinoTeach I tried to teach a group of 7th graders how to play rummy today. They unserstood how To play and how to win but could not pay attention long enough to play.

What’s changed with students since Covid? Plenty. But one thing stands out to me: stamina. The stamina to read. The stamina to write. It wasn’t perfect before Covid, but it feels like it’s gotten worse. What do you think?

If you can read, you can teach your child to read. A degree in reading (or teaching) is unnecessary.

@Utterly_Jean The go whenever you want works. The hallway rollers aren’t disruptive and the kids that actually need to go can go. Then ehallpass ruined it. Now nobody’s happy.

Somebody has never experienced the potty train. Where one kid asks to go and then 6 more all the sudden need to go as well. This typically happens when you are explaining what they need to do. The lesson will need to be explained 10 times as a result.
