To this point, there's no indication that Cal Ripken seeks a significant role in the Orioles' organization. But if he ever wants an opportunity to make over a franchise in a way he wants, this would be the time for him to make his move. If ownership wants instant credibility with its fan base, handing Ripken the reins would be the fastest route.

Watching the Orioles is torturous right now. Their record isn’t terrible enough to throw in the towel. They’ve gotten some timely wins to stop skids. Every time you get an ounce of hope, they get obliterated again. And getting crushed this often is a sign that they aren’t good.

I know Albernaz has to give a positive, motivational response here while he’s frustrated as well. But this statement is factually not true. This team, specifically in this series, has shown the exact opposite. They did not compete, and they did not win. They were dismantled.

Remember when everyone was so excited about getting Albernaz from Cleveland because they always do the little things right? I feel like this team doesn’t do any of the little things well. They don’t hit situationally. They don’t play good defense. They aren’t running the bases.

Completely disheartening and embarrassing effort in this four-game sweep by a division rival. I try to be optimistic this early in the season. The standings are far from decided, and any team can go on a run. But I understand why fans are “jumping ship.” It was a bad product.

If Westburg has experienced discomfort multiple times while throwing over the past 3-4 months without improvement, I can’t imagine there’s a quick rehab here. Just put him under the knife and get him right. Can’t be good for an athlete mentally for their recovery to be stagnant.

More bad Orioles injury news: Jordan Westburg is being shut down from throwing and is being reevaluated, manager Craig Albernaz said. Westburg was feeling discomfort in his elbow as he progressed through his throwing program.

This one is a definite head-scratcher. The only explanation is that he and Breslow never saw eye-to-eye, and Breslow wants to hire his own skipper. Regardless, hard to expect a deep playoff run from a Red Sox squad with an interim manager. Also, they won 17-1 today!
