What twitter thinks I do as a PD: open up Arkham Asylum like the joker using my powers of advanced misogyny What I actually do: cry over Taco Bell on my way from the courthouse to my office cause I’m tired & can’t fix the fact that my 14 y/o client doesn’t have a place to stay

@RedbirdFarmhand Thanks! Because now that savings can be applied to some of our over slot guys now right? I think I might just start following Lobliner’s path now. Love a defensively skilled backstop.

@dsa_182 They took him in the 9th because they like that he is excellent defensively, and has some interesting enough hitting traits. Also, since he's a senior, he doesn't have much signing leverage. He is a money-signing pick, while still hopefully getting some value out of him.

@dsa_182 @DouglasWei43233 @AMandoSch I didn’t mean to imply that stereotype, sorry if that’s how that came across. But past a calling sort of situation, I couldn’t come up with what would drive someone to PD.

People dunking on public defenders today on this hell site need to understand a few things: 1) Unlike me they don’t choose their clients. Bark at me if you don’t like my clients - not them. 2) They could make more money in private practice bit instead choose to work with indigent defendants. 3) Their job is to make the justice system work by jealously advocating for their clients. Without them, accused could not be tried. Want to see the system grind to a halt, see what would happen if PD’a walked off the job. 4) Many PD’s I know end up paying monetarily and emotionally for representing clients who have no friends or family. PD’s often take on emotional baggage that my clients’ families deal with. They also at times get clothes for their clients. I could go on.

@rndmruminations @DouglasWei43233 @AMandoSch Baggage: In my experience, therapy; friends; and different levels of substance use For me, travel is my fun hobby. Friends of mine love board games, sports, or trash tv. You can’t take care of clients if you don’t take care of yourself. you gotta do something to clear the mind

@dsa_182 @DouglasWei43233 @AMandoSch That is wonderful! For the slim minority not seeing it as a calling, what is it for them? How do you deal with the baggage? I’m sure that’s tough.

@rndmruminations @DouglasWei43233 @AMandoSch Rural areas suffer from a lack of attorneys, rural PD offices even more. Sometimes attorneys just need a job and PDs are always hiring bc turnover is high in every type of jurisdiction. Maybe they were a prosecutor and want to try out defense.

@rndmruminations @DouglasWei43233 @AMandoSch I left a well paying civil law job to be a PD. I wanted to help those that needed it the most rather than corporations that my law firm at the time represented. The overwhelming majority see it as a calling and I’m so lucky I was trained by wonderful PDs!

@DouglasWei43233 @AMandoSch Thank you for calling all of this out! I was vaguely aware of some of this but not all of it. Genuinely curious - why might an attorney become a PD? I’m sure some do it for noble causes - helping the helpless, etc. - is that most/all of them?

@HelloJames8 @DouglasWei43233 Former PD with a crazy caseload here: PDs make sure trial cases are prepped and ready to go. If you’re in trial, you’re in trial. You’re not touching anything else but that trial. I have a not guilty where my client was facing life under my belt from when I was a PD for example.

@DouglasWei43233 I totally get where you’re coming from. PD at heroes. But at the same time in feel if I were to face a criminal trial and be given one. I would not stand a chance cause their attention will be elsewhere. Spears too thin.

If we want MLB's draft to be as great as every other major sport, first and foremost----it can't be in the middle of the day while MLB games are going on and having to watch it on multiple streaming services.
