Putin built his image on wars that looked cheap: Crimea in 2014, Syria from the air in 2015.
Ukraine broke the trick.
Year five, the front is still bleeding Russia, the battlefield is reaching back into Russian territory, and Moscow is losing at least 30,000 killed or wounded every month.
Now Putin signs year-round conscription laws, restricts Telegram, pushes the Max app with FSB visibility, and tries to keep the war reality sealed off from young urban Russians.
That is not confidence.
That is a regime afraid its own people might finally see the bill.

The latest threats from the russian Foreign Ministry about “new strikes on Kyiv” sound like they’re supposed to shock someone. But what exactly changes? Kyiv has been living under massive missile attacks for a long time now. Shaheds, ballistic missiles, destroyed homes, murdered civilians, children trapped under rubble — we’ve already seen it all. russia has long been waging war against ordinary people. There is nothing new in these threats. All this public hysteria and intimidation looks more like weakness than strength. Because everything russia could use to terrorize Ukraine, it has already used. And one more thing. Hey russia — we are not afraid of you. Not even a little. Like we said back in 2022: go f*ck yourself.

Ukrainian missiles launched a massive strike on Moscow in retaliation for the attacks on Ukraine.
The missiles reportedly penetrated Russian air defenses and delivered a powerful удар on the capital. Explosions were heard across several districts as residential areas, industrial facilities, and military infrastructure burst into flames. Thick black smoke rose over the city, and the fires could reportedly be seen from dozens of kilometers away.
