Bill Maher asks how the government is “failing the poor so badly” when he pays “60 PERCENT” of his earnings in taxes. “Last week was tax day… I paid the government probably almost 60% of what I earn. That’s a lot.” “And I… wouldn’t mind if Bernie Sanders would stop saying the rich don’t pay taxes.” “The top 10% pay 72% of all federal income taxes. And the bottom half, 3%.” “The Democratic Socialists talk about socialism like we don’t already have a lot: Social Security, unemployment, Medicare, nutritional assistance, Medicaid, Obamacare, disability, housing subsidies.” “How can you be soaking the rich and failing the poor so badly? How can it be that the federal government alone took in over 5 trillion in taxes last year, and we still need that?” “Are we really this incompetent and corrupt?”

@DrJJJavier @usedgov A thousand likes Dr. Javier. I taught Econ in Jr. College & was always amazed at how little my students understood about those real life subjects. I showed them compound interest growth charts & encouraged them to save small amounts over a working career for a better retirement.

Had a pleasant long conversation with a 21 y/o about the market, compound interest, credit cards, taxes, home and auto loans costs. After listening with interest of what I just said, he asked me “why was I not taught any that in high school” @usedgov

Last night in the Cardinals clubhouse after the loss was what I call a silverware night -- a loss after which the room is so quiet that you can't hear much but players chewing silently through the postgame spread, forks clanking against plates. Come inside the room with me:

Ted Williams would trick struggling retired ballplayers into giving him money so he would have their checking account number and then give them money. Not like 10-20$, but up to 1000$.

Heavenly birthday to one of the greatest players in NFL history. Larry Wilson was a 7th round pick in 1960 and became a 5x All Pro/8x Pro Bowl safety. He’s still the franchise leader with 52 INTs and once picked off a pass with two broken hands. #WildcatWilson

@corey_miller5 In a couple of years he's "out-Spooned" Charlie Spoonhour. Hope SLU can lock him in for awhile, he's the best fit for that program they've ever had. Proud watching them going "toe to toe" with likely #1 tourney team. Great job Coach and SLU Billikens!

@DrJJJavier Congressmen should not receive their paycheck either if there are any future budget hold ups, hold-ups etc. They'll find a way to negotiate differences if that's the case. This has become a ridiculous way to govern a country.

@RoccSTL Nah, might be able to get in by winning out at home & one game in A10 tourney. A10 is a tough league this year, might get 2 teams in. RI loss a wake up call, but Billikens are fun team to watch, NCAA selection committee 👀.

@STLfan006457 @clarkisking1 You might be in a level of denial. There are so many unknowns we deserve to be at the bottom until we prove we can win at MLB level. Unproven SP's & RP's, low power lineup & improved Central Division opponents all ads up to uncertainty & doubt. Chaim's track record has been ↗️.

@clarkisking1 I’m not understanding the logic behind placing the Cardinals in the constant rebuild category? First off, our farm system actually improved and made a great jump. Moreover, we have Chaim Bloom, the same guy who built Boston’s farm & Ray’s farm At the very least give us 2 yrs

well if after college in '70 means that you are now 78 years old, I must say you are looking incredible. You've got a new friend in me, and I'd love to chat baseball anytime. Shoot me a message when you have a chance. I looked through our history and saw that you first found me on High Heat, quite some time ago! Thanks for sticking around over the years. Hope all is well, and I hope the family is holding up as gracefully as you seem to be.

@CardPurchaser I put together a list of 61 Topps cards from 1960–1979—my favorite years to collect growing up, my father’s childhood era—specifically for your stat-minded followers. This list is for the folks who, like me as a kid, were always more captivated by the back of the card than the front. My obsession with the game by the numbers was my gateway into the world of baseball statistics and analytics and even media and writing. Each card in this collection commemorates a player breaking a record or reaching a major single-season or career milestone. Now, I am not personally selling these, but I wanted to provide a sense of the investment required to build this set. Based on an average PSA 6-ish value, the total cost for all 61 cards is approximately $7,705—with nearly a third of that coming from the two Mickey Mantle cards. If you have a child who is mathematically inclined and loves the game, this is a perfect starting point. Even if they don’t have the tools to make the show as a player, developing an early interest in the lens of the numbers and its history can help them carve a path for another route into it in the future. I included a couple notes below, as some folks will note that I missed a few key markers, perhaps I did, and let me know, but there are some that were considered, but not available for one reason or another. Enjoy! 1960 Topps #20 – Roy Face | 18-1 | $50 1962 Topps #1 – Roger Maris | 61 HR | $425 1962 Topps #100 – Warren Spahn | 300+ W | $100 1962 Topps #200 – Mickey Mantle | 54 HR | $1,800 1963 Topps #310 – Tommy Davis | 153 RBI | $55 1963 Topps #400 – Frank Robinson | 52 2B | $130 1964 Topps #200 – Sandy Koufax | 306 K & 1.88 ERA | $250 1965 Topps #140 – Dean Chance | 1.65 ERA | $40 1965 Topps #300 – Sandy Koufax | 1.74 ERA | $400 1965 Topps #480 – Joel (Joe) Horlen | 1.88 ERA | $10 1966 Topps #1 – Willie Mays | 52 HR & 500+ HR | $450 1966 Topps #100 – Sandy Koufax | 382 K | $225 1966 Topps #100 – Sandy Koufax | 317 K | $225 1967 Topps #100 – Frank Robinson | AL Triple Crown | $75 1967 Topps #130 – Phil Regan | 14-1 | $15 1967 Topps #310 – Gary Peters | 1.98 ERA | $15 1968 Topps #58 – Eddie Mathews | 500+ HR | $50 1968 Topps #250 – Carl Yastrzemski | AL Triple Crown | $70 1968 Topps #257 – Phil Niekro | 1.88 ERA | $40 1968 Topps #280 – Mickey Mantle | 500+ HR | $700 1969 Topps #100 – Henry Aaron | 500+ HR | $150 1969 Topps #150 – Denny McLain | 31 W & 1.96 ERA | $65 1969 Topps #200 – Bob Gibson | 1.12 ERA | $125 1969 Topps #220 – Sam McDowell | 1.81 ERA | $30 1969 Topps #340 – Dave McNally | 1.95 ERA | $15 1969 Topps #465 – Tommy John | 1.98 ERA | $25 1969 Topps #505 – Bobby Bolin | 1.99 ERA | $20 1969 Topps #560 – Luis Tiant | 1.60 ERA | $40 1970 Topps #600 – Willie Mays | 600+ HR | $170 1971 Topps #150 – Sam McDowell | 304 K | $25 1971 Topps #400 – Henry Aaron | 3,000+ H | $175 1971 Topps #525 – Ernie Banks | 500+ HR | $150 1971 Topps #600 – Willie Mays | 3,000+ H | $275 1972 Topps #49 – Willie Mays | 2,000+ R | $85 1972 Topps #51 – Harmon Killebrew | 500+ HR | $45 1972 Topps #100 – Frank Robinson | 500+ HR | $30 1972 Topps #169 – Vida Blue | 301 k & 1.82 ERA | $30 1972 Topps #299 – Henry Aaron | 600+ HR | $125 1972 Topps #445 – Tom Seaver | 1.76 ERA | $60 1972 Topps #450 – Mickey Lolich | 308 K | $20 1972 Topps #553 – Wilbur Wood | 1.91 ERA | $20 1973 Topps #50 – Roberto Clemente | 3,000+ H | $100 1973 Topps #100 – Henry Aaron | 2,000+ RBI | $75 1973 Topps #260 – Gary Nolan | 1.99 ERA | $5 1973 Topps #270 – Luis Tiant | 1.91 ERA | $20 1973 Topps #300 – Steve Carlton | 317 K, 1.97 ERA, & 27/59 W | $30 1973 Topps #400 – Gaylord Perry | 1.92 ERA | $30 1974 Topps #1 – Henry Aaron | 700+ HR & 2,000+ R | $135 1974 Topps #20 – Nolan Ryan | 383 K | $80 1975 Topps #90 – Henry Aaron | 715 HR & 2,215 RBI | $90 1975 Topps #150 – Bob Gibson | 3,000 K | $40 1975 Topps #500 – Nolan Ryan | 367 K | $115 1975 Topps #540 – Lou Brock | 118 SB (not shown) | $25 1978 Topps #465 – Hal McRae | 54 2B | $10 1978 Topps #500 – George Foster | 52 HR | $10 1978 Topps #580 – Rod Carew | .388 BA | $20 1979 Topps #215 – Willie McCovey | 500+ HR | $20 1979 Topps #321 – Gaylord Perry | 3,000+ K | $20 1979 Topps #500 – Ron Guidry | 25-3 & 1.74 ERA | $25 1979 Topps #650 – Pete Rose | 3,000+ H & 52 2B | $30 1979 Topps #665 – Lou Brock | 915 SB (not shown) | $30 Ted Williams: Because of an exclusive deal with Fleer at the end of his career, Teddy Ballgame does not have a dedicated Topps card displaying his 500th home run. The best alternative is his 1961 Fleer #152, which carries a PSA 6 value of roughly $425. Early Wynn: There is no Topps card that captures Wynn with his 300th victory on the back. His final playing-days issue was 1962 Topps #385, which displays 292 career wins. Al Kaline: Kaline lacks a standard base card following his 3,000th hit, but the milestone is captured in the 1975 Topps Highlights subset (Card #4), usually around $15 in PSA 6. Sandy Koufax: Koufax has no 1967 Topps card due to his sudden retirement. He does have a Topps Venezuelan card that year, though, but it is incredibly rare and goes for five or six figures. Maury Wills: Wills did not have a 1963 Topps card to showcase his 104-stolen base season in 1963. Even if he did, Topps didn't even list stolen bases on their card backs at that time. To find him, you have to turn to the 1963 Fleer #43, which goes for about $150 in PSA 6, and does show the stolen bases!

@theaceofspaeder I thought I might have more, and surprised I had no Cardinals as I'm a STL lifer. I have almost 100,000 cards, mostly baseball. I stopped collecting after college in '70, so that cut down the possibilities off your list. Restarted in late 70's after my sons' became of age.

@theaceofspaeder Hi Ryan, I have 4 off the list: '60 Topps Roy Face. I remember how unique that was back then, not as many relievers as today's game. '67 Topps Frank Robinson. As a Cardinals fan, I hated the Reds, they were hard to beat then. '65 Topps Dean Chance '78 Topps George Foster
