Hackers are calling for Coinbase to pay up or else they will share personal info they "appear" to have obtained from bribing COIN workers. The hackers are asking for $20 million. Less than 1% of Coinbase's monthly transacting customers were impact. The company's preliminarily estimate of the cost is "approximately $180 million to $400 million," per a SEC filing. OCC has officially given a green light to crypto trading and custody at national banks. The regulators clarified in a letter published today that national banks and federal savings associations "may buy and sell crypto assets held in custody at a customer's direction." They are also permitted to outsource custody and execution services to third-parties. occ.gov/topics/charter…

@paulvigna Of course you struggle to find the 'greatest fool' of all time that would be a willing buyer of 1m BTC at just shy of $26m per BTC. Kinda hard to see value and upside at that price considering it would be 2.6x the entire global GDP.

I hate to be that guy, but this makes no sense. $70b of bitcoin won’t help a $34t debt. Bitcoin is not strategically important. It just isn’t. It’s a fascinating experiment in finance, but it’s not critical in any way to global markets. There is no good reason to do this.

There is some irony in constantly criticizing the Fed for printing money then going gung ho about a bill proposing to expand the Fed's balance sheet in order to buy bitcoin.
