Oregon Gov. Tina Kotek ( I thought the photo of her below was a dude) has signed legislation permanently eliminating the state's requirement that high school students demonstrate proficiency in reading, writing, and math to earn a diploma. Supporters say the change will help remove barriers that have disproportionately affected students of color and other underserved groups. Critics argue it lowers academic standards and could leave graduates less prepared for college, careers, and everyday life.

BREAKING: Three women have now been charged in connection with the June 21 assault outside Whiskey J’s nightclub in Longview, Texas - an incident investigators say is likely connected to the aftermath of the Karmelo Anthony trial. According to arrest affidavits, Ciarrianne Fuller, 21, Alana Mumphrey, 21, both of Longview, and Dejae Brown, 21, of Pittsburg, Texas, have each been charged with Assault Causing Bodily Injury. Court records allege that before the attack, a Whiskey J’s security guard overheard someone in the crowd say: “The next white [expletive] that walks out, I’m going to hit her.” The security guard then reportedly watched as the victim walked through the parking lot before she was allegedly attacked by several women. The victim sustained injuries to the back of her head and her right eye. Another witness told investigators they heard someone say: “Any white girl can get it.” The witness also reported hearing people yell: “Free Karmelo.” Investigators say the victim later identified Fuller, Mumphrey, and Brown through social media. The affidavit also states detectives recovered a June 10 social media post from Dejae Brown in which she allegedly wrote she was “takin fades for Karmelo,” a phrase investigators described as indicating a willingness to engage in a physical confrontation. According to investigators, detectives also obtained a text message thread containing a video of the assault. One of the alleged messages reportedly read: “We shouldn’t have done that…” Authorities have also indicated they coordinated with the FBI due to online threats and concerns surrounding the case. This remains a developing case. I will continue following it and provide updates as additional court records become available.

JUST IN: A Georgia man is walking free after defending his family and property at 4 a.m. when three masked thugs rolled up to rob people in his front yard. The suspects — 16-year-old Isaiah Reid, 15-year-old Jaime Hernandez, and 16-year-old Brandon Gresham, all from Conyers — were masked and armed. One teen opened fire first. The homeowner returned fire, dropping all three. Would-be victims unharmed. Deputies recovered two guns at the scene. Rockdale County Sheriff Eric Levett called it a clear “stand your ground” case. No charges against the homeowner.
