Morgan Gibbs-White is going to get all the headlines, and deservedly so, but that was some effort from Elliot Anderson today. Carried the flowers on for his mum and the pre-match tribute, and there he was after 90-odd minutes still doing his stuff. Some lad. #NFFC 🌳 ❤️

Adam Ankers was 17 when he left his home to play for Wycombe’s Foundation team. He never came back. Adam collapsed on the pitch after suffering sudden cardiac arrest, with his inquest raising questions for the football authorities and emergency services about his treatment. His parents now want to make sure his death was not in vain. @DTAthletic 🔗 nytimes.com/athletic/71387…

@DTathletic I loved this when I saw it last night as I’d never seen Julie with long hair before. What a lovely picture ❤️

We are deeply saddened to post that one of our TTT regulars over the years, Julie Pritchard, sadly passed away on the 17th February. We would like to send our love to Rob, Julie’s family and all of her friends during this difficult time ❤️

From start to finish, it lasted 11 minutes, 57 seconds. Calm, lucid, striking to the absolute heart of the matter. Were you watching, Jose Mourinho? Because you might have learned something. Some managers might not have wanted to embroil themselves in the politics of publicly challenging Mourinho for his comments following the alleged racial abuse of Vinicius Junior by one of his Benfica players on Tuesday night. Some might have considered it not worth the hassle to fight someone’s battle. Kompany, thankfully, is among those who understand this should, in fact, be everyone’s battle. 📝 @DTathletic 🔗 nytimes.com/athletic/70568…

Early days, I know, but first impressions of Vitor Pereira at #NFFC … very impressive. Best performance of season today? Certainly felt that way. Sangare, Gibbs-White, Anderson, Murillo etc - there’s always been a good team in there, if/when coached to their strengths 👌

This is exactly what our new and young players needed. Love, support and guidance. Bakwa not getting on but getting attention 🥰 #TheNewForest #nffc

I was in Lisbon last night for Benfica vs Real Madrid, illuminated by a moment of brilliance from Vinicius Jnr and completely overshadowed by what happened after that. Vinicius Jnr believes he was racially abused by the opponent who wouldn't talk to him without putting his shirt over his mouth. The opponent denies it, as do his club. What was also depressing was the response to his complaint: monkey gestures from kids in the crowd (caught on camera) and the rush from so many others — high-profile people in football who should know better, anonymous people on this platform who clearly don't know better — to suggest Vinicius had somehow brought it on himself anyway. Why? Because, like so many other players in world football, he celebrated at the nearest corner flag, in front of the opposition fans. Why does it keep happening to Vinicius Jnr? Because he's a phenomenal footballer who, when he has been subjected to racial abuse (as he has been so many times before last night), has refused to suffer in silence. Nor should he. But it must be exhausting, not to mention incredibly lonely. nytimes.com/athletic/70541…

4/4. If you’re ever up there by the way, I recommend the Rowantree Inn - next to the biscuit factory where John’s mum used to work. Walk in, turn left and look above the fireplace …. John Robertson and Jimmy Johnstone, two of the Viewpark legends.

3/4. So later this year we’re getting a ‘John Robertson Way’ just up the road from his childhood home. A street named in his honour, to go with the stand at the City Ground that will also take his name 👌 Story: nytimes.com/athletic/70419…

Another trying week in the Nottingham Forest madhouse - but a nice little story here on a different note. It’s to do with John Robertson and his early years in Viewpark - an extraordinary place football-wise. I wrote about it here ⤵️ Thread (1/4) #NFFC nytimes.com/athletic/69481…

WWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW It’s now 20 wins in a row for Manchester City against Fulham - the longest sequence of wins against one opponent in English football. But how does it feel to be on the receiving end? ✍️ @DTathletic 🔗 nytimes.com/athletic/70206…

@AnalyticsForest I thought Nuno got us into Europe and then had the rug pulled beneath his feet. Ah well, good to know who we should blame … 😵‍💫

Damn Nuno creating all that European mess!! I'm gonna have hard time believing you're completely impartial if you wanna put Nuno's name up here before some others. #NFFC
Matt Forde@mattforde

I’m gutted for Dychey. He took over at a torrid time and delivered some solid performances and results. The mess that Nuno and Ange created isn’t his fault. I’m sad for Ian Woan and Steve Stone too. They love Forest and were clearly desperate to succeed here.

Arsenal now call the Emirates in north London home. But back in the 1800s, they were based in south London and played in Plumstead. @DTathletic visited the street where the terraces of their old Invicta ground remain in people’s back gardens. nytimes.com/athletic/69911…

It was Nicky Butt who argued recently that it wasn’t fair for Manchester United supporters to direct their anger against the small army of pundits who used to play for the club. But it has become a problem. And it should be possible to recognise why that problem exists, even if you agree with everything they say. @DTathletic on the trouble with United’s media class. 🔗 nytimes.com/athletic/69696…
