We're going around the Moon. Come watch with us. Artemis II's four-astronaut crew is lifting off from @NASAKennedy on an approximately 10-day mission that will bring us closer to living on the Moon and Mars. The launch window opens at 6:24pm ET (2224 UTC). twitter.com/i/broadcasts/1…

Liftoff. The Artemis II mission launched from @NASAKennedy at 6:35pm ET (2235 UTC), propelling four astronauts on a journey around the Moon. Artemis II will pave the way for future Moon landings, as well as the next giant leap — astronauts on Mars.

@KellyLMcCarty Im not a rocket scientist, but from what I know the first crew mission to the moon this time and last time are always orbits first, then testing more things on the consecutive flights. I think its orbit then potentially landing next after ensuring all systems work properly

Because this is reality and not a hoax, you don’t just land on the Moon on the very first flight with new equipment. So, just like the last time we went and eventually landed, NASA build up to it. Artemis I = uncrewed test (Just like Apollo 4 and Apollo 6) Test the rocket. Test reentry. Prove the system works. Artemis II = crewed lunar flight (Just like Apollo 8) First crewed mission beyond low Earth orbit. Navigate to the Moon. Enter lunar orbit. Operate in deep space. Return safely at lunar reentry speeds. This isn’t new. It’s how you don’t kill astronauts.
