@account_blown @hdpayens no scholar. not interested in arguing.
seems I read Jesus got on religious leaders for putting their tradition above God's law and making it of no effect.
seems I remember Him telling the same folks they were in error cause they didn't know what the scripture meant.

@hdpayens Which we can only verify by the scriptures though right?

Sola Scriptura is not in the Bible. Find it. Chapter and verse.
This is a genuine invitation. The foundational Protestant claim is that Scripture alone is the sole, sufficient rule of faith. If true, this doctrine should be clearly taught in Scripture itself.
Let's examine the strongest case honestly.
2 Timothy 3:16-17 is the verse most often cited: "All Scripture is God-breathed and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work."
Read that carefully. Paul says Scripture is "profitable." He does not say "sufficient alone." He does not say "to the exclusion of all other authority." Profitable means genuinely useful, genuinely important. Catholics agree completely. We revere Sacred Scripture. We read it at every Mass. We affirm its divine inspiration without reservation.
But "profitable" and "sole sufficient authority" are two very different claims. A medical textbook is profitable for a medical student. That does not mean the student needs no teacher, no clinical training, no supervising physician. Profitable does not mean exclusively sufficient.
Now consider what Paul himself says elsewhere.
2 Thessalonians 2:15: "So then, brothers, stand firm and hold to the traditions which you were taught by us, either by word of mouth or by letter."
Word of mouth. Or by letter. Paul explicitly commands the Thessalonians to hold fast to oral tradition alongside his written epistles. Both carry apostolic authority. Both are binding.
1 Timothy 3:15 calls the Church "the pillar and foundation of the truth." Not Scripture. The Church. Paul gives the living, teaching Church a role that Sola Scriptura simply cannot accommodate.
And Acts 8:30-31 gives us a vivid illustration. Philip finds the Ethiopian eunuch reading Isaiah and asks, "Do you understand what you are reading?" The eunuch replies, "How can I, unless someone guides me?" Scripture itself shows that Scripture requires an authoritative interpreter.
Here is the logical observation that deserves honest consideration. If Sola Scriptura is true, it must be found in Scripture. But it is not there. The doctrine that says "only what Scripture teaches is binding" is itself not taught in Scripture. This is not a taunt. It is a straightforward problem of internal consistency. The principle fails its own test.
Historically, Sola Scriptura was first articulated as a formal principle during the Reformation in the 16th century. No Christian writer before that era taught it in the way Protestants understand it today.
St. Basil the Great, writing around 375 AD, stated in On the Holy Spirit, Chapter 27: "Of the beliefs and practices whether generally accepted or publicly enjoined which are preserved in the Church, some we possess derived from written teaching; others we have received delivered to us in a mystery by the tradition of the Apostles."
Both written and oral. That was the universal Christian position for fifteen centuries.
None of this diminishes Scripture's authority. Catholics hold Scripture as the inspired, inerrant Word of God. The question has never been whether Scripture is authoritative. It is whether Scripture is the only authority. And Scripture itself says it is not.
To any Protestant reading this with sincere conviction in Sola Scriptura, I ask with genuine respect: how do you account for 2 Thessalonians 2:15 commanding adherence to oral tradition? What is the best case that Paul's words there are compatible with Scripture alone as the sole rule of faith?
