‘Net migration’ is a misleading measurement, because it is produced by subtracting departures from arrivals. The ONS estimates that 813,000 people immigrated to the UK last year, with 627,000 (77 per cent) of them arriving from non-EU countries. These included 138,000 Indians, 56,000 Pakistanis, 54,000 Chinese and 47,000 Nigerians. Meanwhile, 642,000 left the UK – including a quarter of million British nationals and 118,000 EU nationals. This represents substantial population change – almost 400,000 Brits and Europeans left this country last year, to be replaced by 627,000 migrants from some of the poorest countries in the world. @bbcnickrobinson @wesstreeting Like entire cabinet, Wes has never run a business. Like most MPs, he has spent his entire life living off the taxpayer. He doesn't understand CGT investment and it's importance. Doesn't even occur to him to cut VAST bloated public sector. Instead his instinct is more tax.

Wes Streeting has this morning set out his tax plans - specifically bringing capital gains tax into line with income tax He says that the current system is unfair because it penalises work Higher or additional rate taxpayers will pay 24% on gains in the current financial year. Streeting said that the rates should mirror income tax bands - so 40% for higher rate taxpayers and 45% for additional rate taxpayers He says that the approach could raise £12billion a year Streeting said: “A member of my family is a cleaner in Lancashire. She pays a higher tax rate on her salary than her landlord pays for the growing value of the home she lives in. She slogs her guts out, he puts in far less effort, yet the state rewards him more than her. And we wonder why people are angry. “The system is penalising work. It’s not fair and it’s bad for our economy. We need a wealth tax that works. A pound made from simply owning assets should not be taxed less than a pound made from a hard day's work. We can do it in a way that is pro-growth, pro-entrepreneur and pro-work.”

And Labour want to continue rubber stamp approvals of countless immigration claims, continued vast immigration, high taxes, inaction on nearly everything. Reform will act in countless areas.

The main objection to vox pops should be that they’re a miserable experience to do them. Right from when I worked on a weekly newspaper, to now working for 5Live. The idea of a vox pop is always better in the meeting than when we’re standing in the street
