On this day in 1974, bollards were installed in De Beauvoir, Hackney, to manage traffic and prevent danger from passing vehicles. All this happened before the term "low traffic neighbourhood" was invented. Definitely one of my favourite areas in London, and a dream for cycling

Dr. John Legge, emergency medicine consultant at St. Vincent’s, writing in today’s @IrishTimes about the flawed policy of mandatory hi-vis for vulnerable road users. “It seems that any measure to improve road safety but which may inconvenience drivers cannot be considered.”

Most broadcasters won’t say this: our roads are not fair, and they’re not neutral. Some people are far more vulnerable than others. Credit to Kieran Cuddihy for saying it on @rteliveline this week. Our laws, road design, and enforcement must reflect that simple truth.

Following a wet and windy Saturday, conditions have greatly improved across Ireland on Sunday afternoon with widespread sunshine developing in many parts. After a largely dry ten-day spell, heavy rain affected much of the country from Saturday through to Sunday morning. Johnstown Castle in Wexford recorded 37.2 mm of rain, with high totals also reported at Roches Point, Cork (32.5 mm), Cork Airport (31 mm), Valentia, Kerry (28.6 mm) and Mullingar, Westmeath (22.2 mm). The Carnegie Library in Dún Laoghaire is hosting a series of talks, called Carnegie Conversations. Interesting talk coming up on the 22nd of Oct on Rewilding. Its great to see the library back in full time use and open to the public.

Joined Residents this morning 🌄 protesting for a safe Liveable Street. They have had enough of dangerous traffic and HGV'S on their residential street. Agreesive frustrated drivers, driving on the pavement, beeping, shouting. It us simply not designed for this traffic and it's intolerable for people living and working here.
