Thinking about biological collections lately I'm reminded of the time that somehow at age 4, I got a personal tour of the @UCBerkeley entomology collection (Essig?) from a kind scientist (anybody know who?!). Asked my parents how on earth THAT happened, and it turns out...🤯

@benjaminbarad Life is just ribosomes making more ribosomes. Everything else in the cell is just the support system and source code for that to happen.

@ckinzthompson wow - Kittel is one my heroes! I'm sitting at my desk looking at my undergrad textbook Thermal Physics by Kittel and Kroemer - probably to most elegant textbook in science I've ever used

All 4 of the biggest technical advances in the history of biotech - recombinant DNA, sequencing, PCR, genome editing - require enzymes from bacteria. In today's episode of "How Basic Microbiology Made the World a Better Place" - Dr Brock's discovery. nytimes.com/2021/04/22/sci…

A virus is not anyone’s instrument of moral retribution- the AIDS crisis taught that. But it is nature’s implacable bullshit detector.

Phosphine gas is used as a dopant in semiconductor manufacturing to create n-type silicon. Phosphine was just discovered in the clouds of Venus. The obvious conclusion is that there is life on Venus and it is manufacturing semiconductors. nature.com/articles/s4155…

People don’t get it. The only reason last month 25 people died of axes in their head was because they all asked someone if they had an axe in their head. If they hadn’t asked, they wouldn’t have died. But the Socialists don’t understand that. Remember: Don’t Ask, No Axe!
Donald J. Trump@realDonaldTrump

Somebody please tell Congressman Clyburn, who doesn’t have a clue, that the chart he put up indicating more CASES for the U.S. than Europe, is because we do MUCH MORE testing than any other country in the World. If we had no testing, or bad testing, we would show very few CASES..
