Director Christopher Nolan didn’t want to hold anything back when adapting Homer’s The Odyssey for the big screen. hollywoodreporter.com/movies/movie-n…
English

@teddyballgame83 He wants to pretend it is authentic while not having any greeks in Greece.
English

Despite the troll army against this movie, in the end it’s The Odyssey directed by Christopher Nolan and starring Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway
Robert Pattinson, Zendaya, Charlize Theron and Lupita Nyong'o. It’s probably going to make a bunch of💰and win awards.

“The Odyssey” was filmed in 91 days and shot on two million feet of IMAX film, making it Christopher Nolan’s most ambitious movie yet. cbsn.ws/4wzAFjN

@kuaroo_ @TheCinesthetic So people will just stop making movies now?
English

@TheCinesthetic “Hollywood historians”
Yeah, like Hollywood is going to still exist in the next 50 yrs, let alone 100 yrs.

Both the ancient Greek original and Wilson’s version are 12,110 lines long, most other translations are a bit more flowery and add things for atmosphere. Wilson’s version uses more contemporary language instead of archaic translator-ese.
English

@BeeGuyTravis 1/x
Both Fagles’ and Wilson’s translations take some creative liberties in terms of interpretation and pacing. The only pure version will be the original old Greek version, everything else, including modern Greek versions, are only approximations.
English

@BeeGuyTravis 2/x
I will say that Wilson’s translation is underrated and gets some hate it doesn’t deserve. It’s the only version written in iambic pentameter, really highlighting the poetic nature and natural rhythm. It’s also the closest to the original in terms of length.

@IdleRevenant53 @Rainmaker1973 What do you mean they know our trash can kill them? You don’t think they correctly link ocean plastic waste to humans, do you?
English

@Rainmaker1973 They obviously recognize humans as the creators of boats and thus ships. They also would know our trash is capable of killing them. Also we likely don’t taste very good
English

@exdem_now_indy @60Minutes I'll watch it one extra time to make up for you not watching it
English

@60Minutes Nolan's Odyssey has no Greek actors in main roles. Where is Greek representation in a movie based on a poem written by Greeks, about Greeks? Fuck Christopher Nolan. Everyone should boycott this movie to show solidarity with Greece.
English

@filmstofilms_ 10. Fuck the racist crowd and collective of online haters. Don’t let their hate ruin your enjoyment!
English

@UnCiv_Servant @IMAO_ Not what he said, is it? He said he’d watch it and THEN judge it on its merits, not based on the collective idiocy found on the Internet. He still might not like it but he’s not basing that on what random online haters “think” (if that is in fact what they do).
English

@NolanAnalyst After watching and studying his films for more than a decade, I completely understand where he’s coming from and am beyond excited. Most of the “controversial” things make perfect sense to me and even the things I don’t (yet) fully understand are far from dealbreakers. Haters…
English

@NolanAnalyst Not everyone agrees with all the hate comments! Some of us still believe in Nolan’s ability to create compelling cinematic experiences. I for one couldn’t be more hyped. Idgaf about the accents, the casting decisions, the creative direction; I believe this will be a BANGER!

Christopher Nolan explains why THE ODYSSEY won’t portray the gods in a traditional way:
“I became more interested in the idea that to people in that period, evidence of gods was everywhere.”
“In Bronze Age Greece, thunder, rain, and the sun rising didn’t have scientific explanations—they represented the will of the immortals.”
“The wonderful thing about cinema, and IMAX in particular, is that you can take an audience to a place of immersion, feeling close to events like storms, turbulent seas, high winds. You want the audience to be on the boat with them fearing the ocean, fearing the wrath of Poseidon, the way the characters do. That to me is so much more powerful than any individual image you can have [of a god].”

@ItsLazBoi @izzyb58 I’m hearing about this for the first time now but my 2007-2009 brain is hyped beyond belief without even knowing any details.
English

If we don’t get an actual trailer for this thing soon I’m going to lose my mind!

@tkballer12 @NextBestPicture Well seeing as the English language wasn’t around back then, I agree nobody would have said Dad
English

@NextBestPicture 2 cringe things
1) Telemachus says “dad” - I don’t think that word was even said back then…
2) “lets go” before the fight scene…
Also Robert Pattinson idk if he is ready for a movie of this scale. Should have cast cillian murphy for that role imo
English

@MrBruhgobbledy Ah thanks! I live in Germany and set my alarm for 5:30 CET / 11:30 Eastern so I wouldn’t miss it
English

@TheCinesthetic First time I watched Dunkirk I was a bit underwhelmed (by now I think it’s a masterpiece). I did, however, wait years for No Time To Die, as a lifelong Bond fan, and disappointed would be the understatement of the year; it kind of ruined my day… still think it’s shit.
English

@ItsLazBoi Are we back to being an Assassin’s Creed YouTuber now, eh?
English

@CinemaRhymes The Proposal… what a waste of time and resources
English

@TheCinesthetic Hmmm. I was 12 when I watched Skyfall twice in a row because I loved it so much but that was more about the film than the cinema experience itself. I think my earliest favourite cinema experiences would be Dunkirk or Once Upon a Time in Hollywood in terms of audience engagement.
