Large technology firms entering El Salvador’s digital infrastructure is impressive, but also sensitive … 👀 When companies like Google, Nvidia and X participate in state-level digitization, they bring capital, tooling, and institutional credibility that most emerging markets only dream to see. However: a structural tension is predictable. Bottom-up Bitcoin adoption optimizes for self-custody, peer-to-peer exchange, censorship resistance, and minimized trust. 👆 👇 Top-down digitization optimizes for compliance, reporting, auditability, and integration into global regulatory frameworks. Those design philosophies are not aligned by default. 🤜🤛 KYC/AML regimes, data retention requirements, and platform-level moderation will eventually intersect with grassroots sovereignty models. The question is not whether friction appears, but how it is maneuvered: – Does digitization improve state efficiency without compromising individual agency? – Is sovereignty embedded at the protocol layer, or abstracted away at the service layer? – Are citizens treated as users to be managed or sovereign actors to be empowered?
