My @TorontoStar column: Critics said multiplexes were madness. It turns out they provide cheaper and larger places to live. (No major parking problems, either!) With the data they've got, council should have no doubt: sixplexes are the sensible move. thestar.com/opinion/contri…

There's a record number of Toronto condominiums on the market right now, and nobody seems to want to buy them. @dzlo discusses what’s behind the recent sales slump. bit.ly/3RGXT51

Oooooh, excellent questions! The overassessment we’re seeing in our Toronto database is tied to the most affordable end of the housing market, which tends to be … condos. Are we paying a higher $ amount but lower tax rate relative to our neighbours? Will get back to you on that.
Alyshah Sanmati Hasham@alysanmati

@dzlo The experts! Are properties in Toronto overvalued compared to our neighbours bc of the market here and thus do we pay higher dollar amount but lower percentage? And do condo owners pay more tax compared to freehold?

@alysanmati Let’s hear your question again … we were still deep in a reporting rabbit hole when you asked it. Would love to try to help now.

Thanks @alysanmati :) Wonder how many people will guess the correct number of houses it will take for the City of Toronto to make up the shortfall created by a Rosedale mansion that’s been undertaxed by 20 per cent because of its low assessment value … spoiler: it’s in the story
Alyshah Sanmati Hasham@alysanmati

Do you miss all the yelling about property taxes during the election? Well this is the story for you from the @TorontoStar’s @KenyonWallace and @dzlo

This morning: A homeless man sleeping on the sidewalk had his arm amputated by a heavy truck driving into a construction site. People called 911 but were put on hold and told to leave callback numbers. If anyone has a more perfect metaphor for life in Toronto right now, LMK
