there are things said in japanese (for example) that do NOT have a literal translation into english therefore needing to be explained in other words or ways, the average english speaker will not understand the difference of te quiero/te amo and assume it as just “i love you

@Kaelicles knowing *some* of a language is still better than none? it is easier to express the meaning behind phrases in a language you know, while of course the japanese translator did the bulk lifting, there was still input from toby on what could’ve been more fitting in certain cases

he doesn't want the Official Tony Seal Of Approval on a translation he can't personally verify the quality of how hard is that to understand

@e1dritchh The Undertale Japanese translation went incredibly well, so I don't think it was a bad experience that he doesn't want to replicate.
