The extra two percent of the vote Talarico might get against Paxton vs Cornyn might be the difference And honestly, I think people underestimate the effects of Dems winning Texas, the most stereotypical Republican state in the country. It would be the political event of the year

TEXAS REPUBLICAN SENATE PRIMARY ODDS: (+/- from Feb. 21, 10 days before the first round) 🟥 Ken Paxton: 62% (-18%) 🟥 John Cornyn: 38% (+22%)

@austinc3301 @RyanMorey the whole point of being a grad student is the title, it’s the only way to offset the tremendous cost of doing a phd. status and signaling theory isn’t irrelevant

@RyanMorey @eanunez_ Nick goes to classes, writes research, hangs out with other grad students, does RA work, regularly gets confused with PhD students. I think it's not a huge stretch to call him 'basically a grad student without pay or title'

not people trying to argue that nick is somehow less serious because he's not currently a PhD student he's passionate enough to do basically more than what most grad students do but w/o getting paid for it, and whatever you think of his edgier takes, he's obviously very smart

@eanunez_ @RyanMorey why would the admissions process be relevant at all though. Like you keep bringing up differences, but not explaining why these differences are relevant to the argument you're trying to refute

@if_629 @nesialtaras i’m pretty sure people are piling on him due to the harvard larp, which is cringe. the (bad) labor position is just the icing on the cake

@eanunez_ @RyanMorey you have been completely unable to articulate which variables actually matter here that would affect the conclusion in his argument, which only relies on his testimony about the cost of living in the area

@austinc3301 @RyanMorey i disagree, his argument isn’t equally valid. labor disputes are complex and involve variables that are difficult/impossible to quantify. many of those costs are inherent to being a member of the student body, a reality he cannot replicate without actually being part of it

@eanunez_ @RyanMorey no, I'm making the point that he's leveraging his personal experience, and that the validity of his argument is independent of whether he is in any sense officially a harvard student or not

@austinc3301 @RyanMorey are you really making the point that he didn’t leverage his personal experience to make his opinion more legitimate?

@eanunez_ @RyanMorey the statement would apply even if he lived across the world, as long as the cost of living was comparable no part of his argument is a function of how much he is part of the harvard community
