When the shepherd sleeps, the wolves grow bold—so bold they chase the flock from their own fields- The Govt must wake up, this is getting out of hands Angwan Rukuba Attack Disrupts Academic Activities as University Postpones Exams Academic activities have been disrupted following a deadly attack by unknown gunmen in Angwan Rukuba, an area largely inhabited by staff and students, prompting university authorities to postpone scheduled examinations over rising security concerns. In a security advisory issued by the institution’s management, all examinations slated for Monday, March 30, and Tuesday, March 31, 2026, have been suspended and will be rescheduled at a later date. The decision, according to the statement signed by the Deputy Registrar, Information and Public Relations, Emmanuel Madugu, was taken in response to the “late evening fatal attacks” and the tension it has generated within the university community and its surrounding areas. The Vice Chancellor also directed members of the university community to exercise heightened vigilance, both on and off campus. Staff and students were strongly cautioned against moving around very early in the morning and advised to promptly report any suspicious activities or threats to the University Security Division. “Members are strongly advised to avoid coming out very early in the morning and should report immediately any sign or shadow of breach of the public peace,” the statement emphasized, providing an emergency contact for swift response. University authorities further assured that they are in active collaboration with relevant security agencies to monitor developments and ensure the safety of lives and property within the institution and its environs. While appealing for calm, the management noted that further updates would be communicated as the situation evolves, urging the community to remain resolute and hopeful despite the prevailing security challenges.

On this my 74th birthday, I celebrate the valiant men and women of our Armed Forces. Today, I have directed the Accountant-General of the Federation to establish a special account for a fund dedicated to those who serve, those wounded in the line of duty, and the families of those who have paid the ultimate price. As a personal commitment, all my salaries since assuming office will be paid into this account as seed funding, irrespective of existing insurance and welfare schemes for members of our armed forces. This fund will directly support those who have lost their limbs, and the widows, widowers, and children of those who laid down their lives in service to our dear country. I call on our Governors, members of the National Assembly, the private sector, my friends and all well-wishers to support this initiative. Details of the account will be made available in due course. We must never forget those who stand in harm’s way for our peace, nor the sacrifices borne by their families. This is not charity. It is duty. And we will fulfil it. Bola Ahmed Tinubu President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Federal Republic of Nigeria

Just In! Members of the Joint Health Sector Unions, @JohesuNigeria, alongside the Assembly of Healthcare Professionals, are currently protesting at Unity Fountain in Abuja. The demonstration is in response to the proposed Health Sector Regulatory Bill presently before the National Assembly. According to the protesting health workers, the bill—if passed—would place all medical professions under the authority of the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria. They argue that each health profession already has its own regulatory body, and that the proposed legislation would effectively relegate other healthcare professionals to a secondary status beneath medical doctors. The protesters also intend to proceed to the National Assembly, where they aim to present their concerns directly to lawmakers.

Nigerians Need Light, not apologies- Mr. Minister @BayoAdelabu @federal_power The Nigerian energy sector is in this mess because of poor structure, widespread corruption, and the sheer incompetence of those entrusted with the electricity sector. This is a sector that has gulped over 7 trillion naira, yet can barely boast of 4,000 megawatts. And now they’re talking about apologies? Please, spare Nigerians from this waste of time and resources. Video Credit @channelstv

Life in Lagos is becoming unbearable. Starting the Kara Bridge Links renovation just days before Sallah shows poor planning and disregard for commuters. Hours in traffic for what should be simple trips is unacceptable. Lagosians deserve better planning, accountability, and respect. Minister @DaveUmahi Why

Political Intolerance weakens our democratic institutions I am deeply concerned by the growing level of impunity in our political environment, particularly the disturbing reports of a political group allegedly using thugs to disrupt the legitimate activities of another party. This trend is unacceptable and poses a serious threat to democratic values, peaceful coexistence, and the rule of law. It is important to state that this behaviour is not isolated to any one political party. Across the political spectrum, the level of bickering, hostility, and intolerance has become far too pronounced. This pervasive culture of confrontation only deepens division and weakens our democratic institutions. Political intolerance of this nature must not be allowed to take root. I therefore call on the Cross River State Commissioner of Police to urgently investigate this incident and ensure that those responsible are identified and held accountable in accordance with the law. Nigeria’s history serves as a stark reminder of the consequences of ignoring such warning signs. The collapse of the First Republic and the turmoil that followed did not occur overnight, ;they were preceded by acts of intolerance and disregard for democratic norms. We must not allow such patterns to re-emerge. This is a critical moment for all stakeholders to reaffirm their commitment to democracy, civility, and justice. We must collectively reject any actions that promote fear, division, or lawlessness. Our democracy must be protected, firmly, fairly, and without compromise. @PoliceNG @Gidi_Traffic @MobilePunch @YIAGA @inecnigeria @TrafficChiefNG

NO JUDGE HAS THE POWER TO ORDER A LAWYER TO KNEEL IN COURT - @afamosigwe @NigBarAssoc The Nigerian Bar Association is concerned about reports of an incident that occurred on Monday, 16 March 2026, at the Federal High Court, Abuja, involving Honourable Justice Mohammed Umar and a legal practitioner, Mr Marshall Abubakar, who appeared as lead defence counsel to Mr Omoyele Sowore. According to reports, the learned trial judge, in response to counsel raising his voice while addressing the court on the suitability of a hearing date, directed the lawyer to step out of the Bar and kneel down, alongside issuing threats of committal for contempt. The NBA views this development with utmost seriousness, given its implications for the dignity of the legal profession and the sanctity of the courtroom. The courtroom is a temple of justice, governed by law, procedure, and decorum. While judges are vested with the authority to maintain order and discipline in their courts, such authority must be exercised strictly within the bounds of the law and established judicial standards. The power to punish for contempt is well recognised; however, it is circumscribed by defined legal procedures designed to ensure fairness, objectivity, and respect for the rights and dignity of all persons appearing before the court. A judge directing a legal practitioner or indeed any person whatsoever to kneel in court is not a recognised judicial sanction under our laws and does not align with the standards of judicial conduct expected on the Bench. The dignity of the court must be preserved not only in outcome but also in process, and this includes the manner in which judicial authority is exercised. If a judge is of the view that a person has acted in a manner that is contemptuous of the court, the judge MUST follow the accepted way of conducting proceedings for such allegations. We reiterate that legal practitioners bear a corresponding duty to conduct themselves with restraint, professionalism, and respect for the court at all times. While lawyers are entitled, indeed obligated, to advocate firmly and fearlessly on behalf of their clients, such advocacy must always be exercised within the bounds of courtesy and decorum. Disagreements with the court, no matter how strongly felt, must be expressed through proper legal channels and not in a manner that disrupts proceedings or undermines the authority of the court. The legal profession thrives on a delicate but essential balance, one rooted in mutual respect between the Bar and the Bench. This relationship is fundamental to the administration of justice and must be jealously guarded. The NBA calls for calm and restraint on all sides and urges that any grievances arising from courtroom incidents be addressed through appropriate institutional and disciplinary mechanisms. Where necessary, the Association will engage with relevant authorities to ensure that the rule of law, professional standards, and judicial ethics are upheld. Mazi Afam Osigwe, SAN President, Nigerian Bar Association

In Igbo tradition, ‘’Ofo’’ represents truth, justice, and the moral authority passed down by our ancestors. When a man is described as Ofogori, it suggests that the sacred trust symbolised by the Ofo has been compromised, a reminder that honour and integrity are values no title or wealth can replace. It is, therefore, concerning to observe a growing pattern where some young Igbo voices publicly diminish their own homeland in pursuit of political recognition or temporary advantage. Aligning with power may offer short-term comfort, but the deeper measure of a man has always been his loyalty to truth, dignity, and the people from whom he comes. One lesson our tradition teaches clearly is that a person must remain grounded in their roots. Words spoken today for convenience may be remembered tomorrow as a measure of character. Positions change, circumstances evolve, and the tables of influence rarely remain the same. Every season presents opportunities, and each person must decide how to navigate them. Yet history repeatedly shows that when storms arise, titles and temporary alliances often provide little shelter. What endures is the respect earned from standing with one’s people and preserving the honour of one’s heritage. This is simply a call for reflection. The choices made today shape the legacy remembered tomorrow. Because once honour is carelessly discarded, even a thousand brooms may struggle to sweep away the dust it leaves behind. And when the dust settles, the community, including the ‘’Umuada’’, will still be there.
