America is not an all-star team. America is a country. With a native people. And a culture. And this, not your hypothetical all-star team, is what needs to be safeguarded. American is not special because it contains geniuses. America is special because the behavior of the average, non-genius heritage American creates a civilization where progress is possible. It is understandable for you to overvalue talent, because of everything you have built, and helped others to build. But you could only have built it in America. And that is not because of America's supply of geniuses. It because you can build here, without getting beaten to death with rocks for witchcraft. Without bribing eleventy-billion bureaucrats. Without being shut out of every opportunity because they have to be given to the Glorious Leader's third cousin. Without being killed by the preexisting elites simply so they can take your stuff. Need I belabor the point, or do you get the idea? Yes, Ayn Rand was directionally correct, but she didn't have the whole picture. The Great Work is not built by the Great Man. It is built by the Great Team, led by the Great Man, in the Permissive Place. Genius, even genius with drive, is helpless by itself. In all likelihood, the greatest mind in human history spent his life whacking at the dirt with a stick trying to make crops grow, and died at age 32 of a fever that could have been cured by five dollars and thirty-seven cents worth of antibiotics. Because he did not live in the Permissive Place. So, recruiting all-stars is not paramount. Because all-stars or geniuses, are not the bottleneck. Geniuses are everywhere. I know plenty of geniuses. Some of them are driving buses or coaching high school football. The permissive building environment is the bottleneck. When you try to make America into an all-star team, the inevitable result is you being required by law to kidnap and molest a seal. Because people are not generic, blank-slate talent-in-a-can. They bring their culture and values with them. As well as all their relatives. And yes, they will, in fact, vote for the left. Because cultural indoctrination trumps individual intelligence every damn time. They will vote for President Mamdani, and so will their wife and their brother and their cousin and their dear old mama who barely speaks English. They will believe the promises and they will vote for the takers. So you can't afford to bring them here, because without America, there is no Mars. Yes, I am fully aware that you wish to explain how I don't understand how difficult hiring is, how expensive payroll is, how urgent the need. The problem is that everybody else wants to use that same excuse. A basic rule of thumb for evaluating moral actions is the question "What would happen if everyone else did the thing I am doing right now?" Except we don't have to ask that question. Because we are living the answer.
Elon Musk@elonmusk

This is essentially true. However, it is possible to filter for exceptional people from any country. The problem for the left is that exceptional people mostly won’t vote for them.

Biggest model-related issues with FSD today. Not including nav or some other stuff. Focusing specifically on things it has no clue how to do because the tech isn’t there yet. 1) Car can’t figure out how to navigate out of parking garages and many parking lots. 2) Car parks in handicap spots, curb side pickup spots, pregnant mother spots, reserved parking spots. 3) Car backs out of spots in direction that has it going the wrong way down a one way parking lot. 4) Car can’t recognize most school zones. 5) Car can’t figure out which toll booths/rows to drive into in certain garage exits. Usually gets this right out of luck, but doesn’t understand context here. 6) Car can’t understand stop (except right turn) signs. 7) Car can’t read signs warning about upcoming construction or merging lanes. Usually not a problem, but can cause last-minute staging often. 8) Context window is too small when looking for parking in crowded places. Car seems to forget it’s supposed to be parking. Especially bad in cities where you’re trying to find street parking I actually can’t think of anything else. Anyone have any others? Focus specifically on things that the tech doesn’t understand yet. I don’t care about the wrong turn it makes by your driveway or the fact that it went around a trash truck on a double yellow road and you think that’s wrong because you’re an idiot.

@TeslaBoomerMama Xi couldn’t care less about the merger. They already assume any and all data transmitted back to USA will be used for military purposes. It’s the USA that might have a problem but even that is far fetched. Eg. Boeing, a major defense contractor, has several JVs in China.

Tesla Weighs Sale of China Business to Pave Way for Potential SpaceX Merger -- WSJ China. By Becky Peterson and Raffaele Huang (Wall Street Journal) -- Elon Musk designed Tesla's China business to be easily separated from its U.S. business because of geopolitical tensions. It might also come in handy if he proceeds with a SpaceX merger. Musk in recent years instructed Tesla executives to organize the company with a "laser" between its U.S. and China businesses, according to people familiar with the planning. He wanted to ensure that in the event of geopolitical strife between the two countries, at least the U.S. half of Tesla would survive. Now, some Tesla executives have been told to prepare for a separation of the China business ahead of a potential merger, a person familiar with those talks said. And Tesla advisers have discussed possible options for a separation, including a spinoff, sale or closure, another person said. Any of those moves could have a profound impact on Tesla, whose Chinese operation transformed it into a consistently profitable global mass-market electric vehicle leader -- and potentially impact its valuation if a SpaceX merger were to happen. It is unclear how quickly Tesla could spin out or sell the China business, and it is possible that its plans could change. Musk, who is chief executive of both Tesla and SpaceX, has talked up the crossover potential between both companies in recent months as he reorganizes them around artificial-intelligence projects. Investors and analysts have embraced the idea of a merger following a record-setting IPO for SpaceX, which raised $86 billion for the company in June. "Obviously we can't talk about, you know, combining companies and that kind of thing on earnings calls," Musk told investors last week. "It is got to be done with the appropriate process." Musk was particularly concerned about Tesla's dependence on China for battery cells and feared its access to semiconductors could be jeopardized if Beijing invaded Taiwan, the people familiar with the planning said. The goal was to be ready for 2026 or 2027 in anticipation of a war, they said. Separating Tesla's China operations -- including an electric-vehicle factory there -- would address potential conflicts arising from SpaceX's work as a major U.S. defense contractor. Such a deal would aim to create a firewall between Tesla's Chinese subsidiary and its U.S. business. SpaceX faces significant restrictions due to its dealings with the U.S. government. The company is a major national-security defense contractor, with business lines that include launching top-secret satellites and operating internet services in war zones like Ukraine. Sales to the U.S. government made up 20.9% of its business in 2025. That business is highly regulated, with the company restricted by export controls and, for some programs, classified government activities. Executives have also discussed creating a separate sales entity to handle exports from Tesla's Shanghai plant, one of the people said. Tesla could create separate office systems and bar China-based employees' direct access to other company units, the person said. While Tesla China already has some autonomy, employees more or less work together around the globe and the top executive in China, Tom Zhu, oversees all of Tesla's global automotive business. A potential merger between SpaceX and Tesla would likely trigger intense scrutiny from Beijing, given that a major U.S. defense contractor would control Tesla's factories in China and the factories' know-how and supply chain could be repurposed for the U.S. military, according to people familiar with the matter. Another concern for Beijing is that a deal could put data of China's roughly two million Tesla owners in the hands of an American defense company, they said. In the event of a merger, Beijing would likely seek Tesla's commitment and business guardrails to prevent the influence of SpaceX on Tesla China and illicit diffusion of dual-use goods such as rare-earth materials from Tesla China to SpaceX, the people said. Tesla has two major factories in Shanghai. They make electric cars and batteries that are sold in China and exported to various markets around the world, but not to the U.S. China is Tesla's second-largest market after the U.S., making up around 18% of sales in the first half of 2026. Unlike many other Western competitors, Tesla's automaking operation there isn't part of a Chinese joint venture. During the first Trump administration, Tesla launched an initiative called Project Carbon to relocate its Chinese suppliers to Mexico, a decision that went beyond concern over tariffs from the U.S. on Chinese goods, according to people involved in those plans. Musk was particularly concerned about Tesla's dependence on China for lithium iron phosphate, or LFP, battery cells, as well as its reliance on chips from Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing, the world's biggest contract chip maker, which faces the threat of war between the island and Beijing, the people said. In 2025, the EV maker decided that it would stop using China-based suppliers by 2027 in its U.S. factories, in part because of U.S. tariffs and government incentives for local production, The Wall Street Journal reported. Mergers involving multinationals typically require regulatory approval across multiple jurisdictions, though most reviews focus primarily on antitrust concerns. In 2018, Qualcomm terminated its proposed purchase of Dutch chip maker NXP Semiconductors after failing to obtain clearance from China. It is common for companies in the U.S. to have contingency plans for their China businesses and a number of U.S. companies have already spun out their China arms into independent companies. Starbucks recently sold a majority stake in its China business. In 2016, Yum Brands, owner of Pizza Hut and KFC, spun off its China unit and sold stakes to local investors. 6:08 PM

I am an authoritarian. Told Bill Gates to turn off Google to get the employees to fix search. Noticed Microsoft employees do more Google searches than all of some other continents. He refused, said it is better to have access. But China hasn’t approved our autonomous driving AI that just drove me and kids for 1,400 miles. So I understand why the FCC is banning humanoids from China. That said government protection only works if builders build.

Imagine being Elon Musk for a moment. You work harder than 99% of people, when you don’t have to, pouring everything into advancing humanity, reshaping what it means to truly live, delivering global internet access so brilliant minds in the most remote places can join the conversation, ushering in an age of abundance that lifts everyone, saving lives, and making life multi-planetary. Along the way you give people with quadriplegia and paraplegia the ability to control computers with their minds, restore sight to the blind, slash soul-crushing traffic, and far more. As a side quest, you defend free speech and push back against the woke mind virus. Yet every time $TSLA dips, a small but loud mob of emotional critics, blinded by ego and lack of accountability, comes out with pitchforks. The media lies about you constantly. Short sellers who would sell their own mother for a profit say and do anything. Fund managers blame you when their clients get emotional and they miss their quarterly bonus. Governments, politicians, and the legacy institutions your companies are disrupting wish nothing but ruin on you. That kind of weight has to press heavily at times.

the distillation panic is a strange look from an industry that trained itself on the entire scraped internet. every frontier lab built its models on data it didn't own, and most are in court over it right now. "they learned from our model" hits different when your model learned from everyone's, without asking. glass houses, top to bottom.

We have information that Moonshot AI distilled Anthropic’s Fable for the development of its K3 model. To do this they developed a sophisticated internal platform to conduct large scale distillation against U.S. models, allowing them to quickly switch between multiple methods of access to avoid detection. Moonshot AI has also acquired GB300-equipped servers and has accessed GB300s in Thailand, likely to train its AI models.   The United States strongly supports the free and fair development of AI, including a thriving competitive ecosystem that spans frontier models, specialized systems, open-source frameworks, and open-weight models. Legitimate AI distillation used to create smaller, more efficient models plays a vital role in this open innovation ecosystem. However, large-scale, covert industrial distillation aimed at stealing proprietary U.S. technology and undermining American research is unacceptable.

Tricking the US Government to protect frontier labs’ business model by using a China boogeyman is a mistake. It is protecting the equity of 5,000 people who are investors in OAI and Ant at the sale of everyone else. This would be a terribly stupid decision. Let the market sort this out! The events of the past few weeks may simply mean that the frontier labs’ business model is not good and that their revenues aren’t sustainable. That’s ok. It’s ok to have a business model that worked for some time then all of a sudden didn’t (remember Groupon)! This still leaves a lot of value for a lot of other American companies: - CPUs - GPUs - hyperscalers - neoclouds - rack manufacturers - electricity and power - skilled trades - application layer AI None of this value goes away. In fact, if the model layers’ costs decrease by 10-100x, competition would accelerate and I would argue that the value to everyone else will go up more than what is lost. Let the free market sort this out vs allowing two companies whose stock is owned by less than 5,000 people decide this for America.

$tsla on wednesday, elon needs to prove without any doubt that he is not holding back robotaxi and optimus in order for spacex to merge with tesla how can he possibly do that? obviously, he CANNOT COMMENT whatsoever on the topic - he will deny that they’re considering it (as is basic M&A protocol, you do not pre announce or hint at any possibility of acquiring a public company otherwise their valuation will pump up before your official bid is made) so instead, the only possible way he can “prove” it is by giving concrete, SHORT-TERM timelines and demonstrate that there is immense momentum behind the scenes and is IMMINENT it must be drastically different from previous calls wherein they share plans over 6-12+ months out some examples: -detailed robotaxi timelines, plans and fleet sizing over the next 60 days -addressing WHY all plans previously shared had failed to materialize and why there have been zero comms -an unveil date of optimus 3 and plans for production happening next quarter MAX and expecting SALES numbers for early 2027 IF he does not do this without any doubt, it will provide further evidence that MY thesis that i’ve held for months will be true - and will mean the stock is DEAD why? the ceiling is capped by a spacex merger premium think about it: spacex will continue to sell off into october due to lockup expirations, along with the market having a 10% correction tesla will head toward low $300’s during this timeframe as well therefore, it’s likely that a merger won’t happen until 2027, OR it will happen when both companies are low market cap a 20-30% premium (per RBC expectations), will put a bid price at or slightly under $400 “shareholder voters will reject it!” no they won’t lol. because if you reject it, the stock goes to $250 elon has you all by the fucking balls, just like the comp vote, where he LIED ahead of the vote to get you excited and then DISAPPEARED after i told you for MONTHS this was coming i ate shit from all of you and now i will be the only tesla “bull” who was waiving the red flag in real-time trying to save as many of you from ruin as possible

Tesla has mislead investors over the last year, whether intentionally or not. People who are pissy today are not pissy because they aren’t patient. They are pissy because they feel like they are being bullshitted. Normal people don’t like being bullshitted to. The “on one side” people you’re referring to are the ones who are so koolaid drunk that they will take any garbage and turn it into gold because their entire identity is tied to Tesla, and admitting they are imperfect is too painful for them. Everyone I see complaining right now continues to read the long-term signals, build their position, and have no plans to bail. Their complaints are about Tesla’s bullshit comms and their need to improve.
