@mrillig I think it is reasonable to send samples out for routine and time-consuming analysis. My idea is that one student should must one skill, know everything about it, and that is enough. Save time for more important questions, don't learn too many skills.

Please consider submitting a paper on CECs such as PFAS, Microplastics, Pharmaceuticals, Personal Care Products, or other contaminants of emerging concern! SEH is an excellent journal with a great editorial board. #CEC #pollution #crop #soil

A question measured dissolved GHG people. Is there any value in taking CH4 measurements from water samples that have been collected, filtered and stored cold (without headspace). Or will all the CH4 have degassed during filtering/been eaten by methanotrophs?

@goldschmidt2023 Thank you very much. I didn't know Goldschmidt had the program, and it is really a great opportunity for my student. I already forward it to her.

I am surprised by how much dissolved carbon can be leached from Whatman 42 filter papers. My group detected 9 to 11 mg C/L after running ultrapure water through them. In contrast, our soil samples typically result in 30 to 60 mg C/L.

Check out our new paper in Nature Communications! nature.com/articles/s4146… I collected four years of continuous GHG fluxes to quantify importance hot moments of N2O emissions from continuous alfalfa agriculture. < 1% of measurements accounted for up to 57% of annual emissions!
