@BuyoyaJonah Wat we should be moving towards is shifting holidays tht fall on Tuesdays to Monday & those tht fall on Thursdays to Friday so we can limit th amount of interruptions (Start - Stop weeks) esp for us in th financial sector. Ths also allows those tht wud want to travel more time

@MGCHANSA I find tht strange, what of independent candidates/ representatives? Don't they champaign, file nominations and evn win without belonging to political parties.

What I find especially bizarre about JS is that he is experiencing problems that I personally told him that he will face - months ago. For example I told him that according to Zambian law, you would not be allowed to undertake political activity mobilisation without a political party umbrella. In Zambia only political parties have the legal rights to disseminate political information - that is the law. For whatever reasons, he takes no notice of what he is told or the law as it currently stands. A whole bunch of Zambian laws is absurd and too restrictive on citizens' rights and they would need changing (which change for whatever reason JS opposes). But you can not possibly expect the laws of Zambia to change for you overnight because you have turned up have something you want to do urgently.

@briansimasiku Sad reality on th ground. I was shocked wen security officers of 1 of th biggest firms shared tht they had not bn paid in 3mths simply bcoz the client ws behind on their pymnts. Asked Y tht wud affect them wen they dnt wrk for the client & aren't at liberty to pick their site.

There was a time, back in the old ZCCM days, when I worked as a casual worker at Mutondo House and Nchanga House maintaining hedges and the grass. Every morning we’d try to catch a ride on the ZCCM Staff Bus from Chamboli, praying the Mine Police wouldn’t spot us. But there was one who always did. Ruthless, cold and uncompromising. Even when the bus was nearly empty especially around month-end when most employees used their own cars, he’d still chase us off like pests. Only him did this, others would allow us. We were nothing to him. I never forgot his face. Fast forward to a few days ago. I stopped by a friend’s PPE store to check on some new stock. As we chatted, I noticed a familiar face at the gate; and it was him. The same ex-Mine Police….. older now, manning the gate as a security guard for a private firm. I write this with deep sadness. I walked out, half in disbelief. He looked frail, but those eyes were unmistakable. “You were very small kids… this is how you’ve grown?” he said with a weak smile. He told me the firm he works for only pays after clients pay and the firm’s accounts had since been garnished by ZRA. He hadn’t been paid for two months. He said things were tough for him and his family, but “even if I stopped going for work, there’s nothing else to do.” He then pulled out a payslip. I almost cried coz what I saw was straight up slave wage. You wonder how we, as a society, allow such exploitation to persist. At that moment, I saw not the Mine Police who once perpetually tormented us, but a man life had beaten down harder than he ever beat us. I hired him ON THE SPOT! He will deal with his own conscious in his own time, let me deal with what’s in front of me, which a man in a desperate situation.
