Using GPT to make flashcards. GPT makes the TL questions, which are very simple descriptions of the TL word. The Echo Prof app is reading them out to me, then I’m saying the answer out loud into the app. Listening/speaking practice just got much easier!

@mattvsjapan Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe you made an argument /FOR/ content piracy. I could never find the video clarifying the line of thinking there. What was that all about?

@SantPolyglot Duolingo is mostly just bad because of all the filler content. Animations/ads/loading screens really big down the experience.

You get fluent in languages through listening and speaking Yes, reading and writing help massively But you should first focus on listening to and speaking the language This is why 90% of novice language learners fail They don’t practise the right skills

@SpanishBPrints When I was in China, my best (most fun, most genuine) Chinese practice came from taxi rides!… That said, they don’t have a tipping culture there, so in other places ymmv (pun intended).

Language Learning Tip! The next time you get an uber, check out the profile of your driver and see if they have the languages they speak listed. I didn't know this was on Uber until today,. My driver spoke Spanish and English. So we had a great Spanish conversation! #langtwt

@AnKingMed Echo Prof is a pretty good alternative (specifically for languages) 😅 I still love Anki, though.

@NatiMateApp I've built a "taboo"-style game for language exchanges, and a version with a "pictionary"-style stage for the first 30 seconds of each turn. Lemme know if you wanna collab.

@JohnKadirii @AnKingMed Here’s a good tip for studying Japanese with GPT4 and Anki x.com/d2dev_/status/…
David Dales@d2dev_

Making Japanese->Japanese flash cards for use with Anki/Echo Prof This is the prompt I use: Can you give me 5 example ELI5 descriptions of a word? I'm trying to make Japanese/Japanese flashcards to study from. For each, please write the description, then a `,` character, then the word (in kanji if applicable), then a `/` character between each of the readings (kanji and furigana)? The next line should be the furigana for the description. Then on the line after that, the English translation. For example: ``` 物をきちんと片付けないで、散らかっている状態,ダラしない / だらしない ものをきちんとかたづけないで、ちらかっているじょうたい A state where things are not properly cleaned up and are left messy. 服装や見た目が乱れていて、整っていないこと,ダラしない / だらしない ふくそうやみためがみだれていて Being disheveled in appearance and dress, not well-groomed. 約束や時間を守らない、いい加減な態度,ダラしない/ だらしない やくそくやじかんをまもらない、いいかげんなたいど An irresponsible attitude of not keeping promises or time. 怠けていて、物事に対して真面目ではない様子,ダラしない / だらしない なまけていて、ものごとにたいしてまじめではないようす Being lazy and not serious about things. 自分のことをしっかり管理できずに、だらだらと過ごすこと,ダラしない / だらしない じぶんのことをしっかりかんりできずに、だらだらとすごすこと Spending time aimlessly without being able to manage oneself properly. ``` Let's try 風物詩 this time...

@MigakuOfficial I didn't get the cup of water analogy at first, but I stuck with it, and it's actually quite interesting. Very curious about the podcast!
