It is continually said that the USA pays for 62% of the costs of NATO. THAT is a LIE. What we are seeing are the charts and numbers of all the countries of NATO added together and their spending on their OWN defense. It has been proven that number does not represent what people think it means. Almost none of that money goes to pay for other countries defense or to NATO. Again it is for each country's OWN defense , to spend as they decide. NOW the real numbers of each countries share of NATO expenses. (As an example it costs the USA around $800 MILLION to be part of NATO. It is the only thing that adds to the USA deficit. ) The Common Budget of NATO is dependent on the GNI of each country with a few exceptions .... Look at the Charts of each countries GNI compared to the GNI of ALL NATO Countries. What do you see ... look at the percentages Now do you see you have misled for YEARS (The USA pays a lower percentage because it it such a huge portion of the world's economy. NATO decisions were made years ago to have the USA percent lower because of that. The highest the USA has even paid was a little over 28%.
