Update #3: AI183 AI183 of 18 July 2024 operating Delhi to San Francisco had made a precautionary landing at Krasnoyarsk International Airport (KJA) in Russia at around mid-night local time. ⁠Air India’s local support was activated to assist passengers, who were required by authorities to remain in the terminal building in the absence of Russian visas. Food and beverage amenities at the terminal, which were closed for the evening, have now opened and meals are being provided to all passengers. Representatives from the Indian consulate in Moscow have travelled overnight and are working with Russian authorities to allow passengers to move to hotels, which have been on standby throughout the night. Regulatory clearances have been obtained for a relief flight that will depart Mumbai at 1100 hrs IST and ferry the guests out of Krasnoyarsk International Airport later today. Air India regrets the inconvenience to passengers arising from this diversion, which was undertaken in the interest of safety.

Update #2: Air India Flight AI183 Air India flight AI183 of 18 July 2024 operating Delhi to San Francisco made a precautionary landing at Krasnoyarsk International Airport (KJA) in Russia after the cockpit crew detected a potential issue in the cargo hold area. The aircraft landed safely at KJA with all 225 passengers and 19 members of the flight crew, who have now disembarked and have been taken to the terminal building for further processes. As Air India does not have its own staff at KJA, we are arranging for third party support to provide all necessary assistance to passengers. Air India is also in liaison with government agencies and regulatory authorities, and we are making arrangements for a ferry flight to KJA to take passengers onwards to San Francisco at the earliest. All of us at Air India are concerned about the passengers and staff and are making every effort possible to operate the ferry flight as soon as possible, and to ensure the health, safety, and security of all while they wait. We will share further updates as soon as they are available.

@airindia Not a single @airindia staff member is there, nor any Russian staff. Why aren't you taking care of your passengers?

@airindia @airindia There is no/limited water and food and your passengers have been waiting for over 5 hours. My parents say that they are cold, wet from the rain (after getting in/out of busses), hungry and no one is giving them food/water or responding to questions.

@airindia How long is the delay? Are passengers being provided water and food yet?

Air India flight AI-183 operating Delhi to San Francisco has been diverted to Krasnoyarsk International airport (UNKL) in Russia due to a technical reason. The aircraft has landed safely and we are working with relevant authorities to ensure guests are taken care of while we decide the next course of action. At Air India, the safety and wellbeing of our customers and crew remains top priority.

@toniwhited @FabioGhironi I’ve heard of worse stories and delays at other journals related to not having full-time staff to help with the process (involving simulated data since the original was proprietary). It widens the inequities and timelines even further for publication!

Texting with a colleague at another uni who is mired in the AEA replication process. Wasting > month getting all in order so that some RA can just push one button and get all the data merges right so that the results are perfect to the 3rd decimal place. 1/5

@HannaGHoover Because even that requires a fair bit of time and effort! Lower ranked journals do not always correspond to faster/easier paths to publication. Plus, I always find myself distracted by tempting new projects.

@econprachi Ah it's so sad though, perhaps I'm just a sucker for sunk costs. Why not just publish in a lower ranking journal?

Question: why do people choose to have "permeant" working papers, i.e. not seek publication in a journal?
