Somehow, the Kon-Tiki expedition once came up in my PL class (don't ask, I don't even remember), and most of my students had no idea what that was. And this was back in ~2002. It was one of the most amazing stories when I was a child…and then it just got forgotten?!?

My first semester in college I was so excited to be in the US and have freedom to choose classes that I signed up for every class I was crazy about, so I had 5 days of 8am classes.
My second semester, I VERY carefully made sure my earliest class was at 1pm.

Incoming college students: if I could offer you one piece of advice, it’d be do not take an 8am class. You’re probably thinking why not, I started high school at 8am every day? Well you see, 8am college time is 5am high school time. Don’t do it.

33/ So am I a bit cynical? Yes. Grateful? Also yes. The memorial is terrific: somber, detailed, informative, chilling, and doesn't mince words. You can ignore the World Heritage nonsense and this is still an admirable thing to visit, especially if you also visit Buchenwald. •
