@mike_d_clarke Indeed! Crappy people everywhere. But... I'm interested to see how such problems are dealt with on Mastodon vs Twitter.

@swampwoman Deleting accounts? That is something I've never done! I don't burn bridges. I don't even like to close the door behind me. Thanks for your help, by the way: you smoothed the path for me.

@mike_d_clarke You're far too modest; the world needs your perspective. Anyhow, I guarantee one gets more easily exposed to a more diverse array of ideas on that platform than this, so I think you'll enjoy it.

The only thing that can replace Twitter's core function is an RSS reader and a discoverable blogging platform. But nobody uses that stuff anymore and Twitter made those functions seamless and convenient.

@elsbet @skooks If you primarily are doing this via web browser, it's mainly a conceptual hurdle as you get started. You can copy the handle of the person you want to follow, and search for it on your home server, and follow them that way. And I'm sure there are other ways.

@elsbet @skooks OK, now I think I know what you're experiencing. It's part of the federated decentralized thing, when you try to follow someone on another server. I can see that would be confusing at first! Not an issue on the apps I've been using, only on the web.

@editor_b @skooks I'm definitely no expert, I've only been lurking there a few days at this point. I wouldn't be surprised if this is in my feed more than elsewhere because I'm following a lot of people from journalism lists and they're more likely to talk about it or have people point it out.

@mike_d_clarke I'm a whore for attention, Mike. That's what has always driven me to seek maximum exposure. So don't believe the hype! You'll be just as visible there as here, though obviously Twitter has the massively larger userbase — for now.
