We need to build data centers fast to win the AI race, but as @DavidSacks conveyed to @EdLudlow, consumers shouldn’t foot the bill. That’s why we need one clear national framework instead of 50 different state rules slowing things down.

What should I write about for Monday's newsletter?

The announcement of Trump's PCAST council looks like a who's who of Silicon Valley, Zuckerberg, Huang, Brin, Su. But the most surprising detail to me: Oracle has two seats at a 13-person table. Larry Ellison and Safra Catz give Oracle more representation than any other company on the council. That alone is worth scrutiny. But Oracle is not just another enterprise tech vendor. It is the designated guardian of American TikTok user data under Project Texas, positioned as the neutral trust layer between a foreign-owned platform and US national security concerns. That quasi-regulatory role and a seat on the council shaping the policy environment around it is a significant concentration of power. Oracle's position in any TikTok resolution depends directly on decisions this council will inform. I also see a structural issue here. The US chose a private corporation as the institutional safeguard for a national security concern. PCAST makes that impossible to ignore. Oracle is now a commercial actor, a de facto data regulator, and a White House policy advisor all at once. Also worth noting: Sam Altman and Elon Musk, arguably two of the most visible figures in the current AI moment, are nowhere on this list. Whether that reflects their complicated relationships with the administration or a deliberate distancing is an open question. But their absence is as interesting as the appointments themselves.
