The AI expansion is creating a blue-collar boom—creating more jobs for electricians, construction workers, and skilled technicians. It’s the tradespeople building the physical infrastructure behind the technology who will power America’s AI agenda.
Business Insider@BusinessInsider

"Just in the next 2 years, 500,000 electricians are needed to build all the infrastructure that's going to be needed just in the United States," Meta's president said of the workforce needed to power the AI boom. bit.ly/4bMq5wh

@hamandcheese Good question on salary and retainers.... Look forward to seeing the disclosures before making my judgment about which option is better or cushier. In my experience... very few vocations are more cushy than a think tank.

Sure, many people take jobs in areas they care about (or are told to care about) but what is he actually doing about it? If things are so drastic, why is their no real urgency or solutions to mitigate this immediate crisis he claims are around the corner??? This reminds of me of telecom activists claiming Ajit Pai was going to "destroy the internet" but all they did was tweet.....

Giving up a cushy job to go to more happy hours is hardly preparing for pending doom.
Samuel Hammond 🦉@hamandcheese

@NathanLeamerDC I mean he quit his comfortable university president job to dual hat running an AI safety PAC and a think tank focused on cyber risks from AI, among other things. Granted, you do go to more happy hours.

If you really believe this, you are being incredibly pedestrian in your response. If you truly believe this you would move heaven and earth to stop the disaster. Yet all we see from you are armchair posts and no action. Come on Brad, do better to save the world.
Brad Carson@bradrcarson

Having been in San Francisco the last few days talking to people, I'm radically updating my odds for an imminent (next year) AI-enabled cyber disaster.

We need real, commonsense rules for AI, but we can’t slam the brakes on progress while we figure it out. We’re in a Cold War with China on AI. If we want to win, protect our national security, and stay dominant, we need to keep building the infrastructure that allows us to lead. axios.com/2026/03/25/san…

The entire piece by @JVlasto and @ZacMoffatt gets everything right, particularly this point: "Right now, we are still in the first inning of the AI era. The technology is advancing quickly, but the policy framework that will guide its development is still being written. That means the decisions policymakers make in the next few years will shape how AI affects the economy, national security, and everyday life for decades."

America should lead the AI era with confidence and clarity, not confusion. @JVlasto and @ZacMoffatt lay out why a national framework can protect the public, expand opportunity, create jobs, and help the U.S. stay ahead of China. Read more @Newsweek ⬇️ newsweek.com/how-america-ca…

1 in 3 Americans uses AI chatbots for health questions. A majority of American physicians use AI tools daily to practice medicine. Like it or not, technology is rapidly changing healthcare in America. I am honored to serve on the Healthcare Advisory Committee to support Secretary Kennedy and Administrator Oz at this important moment. AI must serve society, and there are few clearer ways to do so than expanding access to care for rural and Medicaid populations, deflating costs, and improving health outcomes. AI should be a win for ordinary Americans, and it is my hope that the right policy can make it so. I look forward to working hard on behalf of American patients and physicians.

We need to build data centers fast to win the AI race, but as @DavidSacks conveyed to @EdLudlow, consumers shouldn’t foot the bill. That’s why we need one clear national framework instead of 50 different state rules slowing things down.

Thoughtful bipartisan case for a national AI framework from @JVlasto and @ZacMoffatt in Newsweek today: "If we get this right, AI will be one of the most powerful engines of economic growth in modern history. It can create millions of well-paying jobs, accelerate medical breakthroughs, help small businesses compete, and increase productivity across the entire economy."

If America wants affordable, accessible AI, we need to build the infrastructure behind it. Data centers are not the enemy. They are essential to innovation, competitiveness, and making sure the benefits of AI reach far beyond the biggest players.
