Been backing and forthing with Walt Meier at @NSIDC on the floor dropping out of Antarctic ice maximum. He pointed me to @ariaanpurich et al's new study nature.com/articles/s4324…, and there's also a helpful group-authored @ConversationEDU post here: theconversation.com/as-antarctic-s… In her paper, Purich says "We cannot rule out the possibility that we are simply witnessing variability of the Antarctic sea ice system" but their analysis finds signals of a regime shift driving by warming sea temps, leading to "inevitable decline, long predicted by climate models."
