This is the way (for beliefs research). Discourse analysis gives such rich insight into participants’ beliefs. Unless there’s sufficient justification (eg, studying espoused beliefs), I hope, as a field, we move away self-reports of beliefs

Educators, school administrators, and parents glaze over a harsh reality — kids don’t like school. They seem to have forgotten that kids withdraw in environments that don't excite them and thrive in environments that do.
