Lasting Memories: One of the real highlights of researchED Atlantic Canada 25 was presenting Dr Jamie Metsala with the first researchED Canada Award of Excellence. The first recipient of any award sets the standard #rEDATCan25 Ty @NicoleJConrad for capturing the moment #NSed

Deep Dive: What impact did the 'Knowledge Turn' in English schools from 2010 to 2022 have on teen mental health? Assessment expert Daisy Christodoulou finds mental health also deteriorated in Scotland and Wales, skills-based systems taking different paths. Essential reading.
Daisy Christodoulou@daisychristo

It's become common lately to hear people say that rising attainment in English schools has been bought at a terrible cost - that of rising mental health problems. How true is this? Is it fair to blame Gove-era curriculum & exam reforms for increased anxiety & unhappiness? I dig into the international data to see what it can tell us... substack.nomoremarking.com/p/do-knowledge…

The great thing Paul, as you have done in Halifax, is that @researchEDCanada, at its best, is a reflection of depth and breadth of the pool of outstanding educators in every region of the country, as the Calgary lineup of local expertise put together by @NickelJodi clearly shows.
Paul W Bennett@Educhatter

Four years of planting seeds, networking and assembling a team with @JimRChristopher @NickelJodi and @jkgamble3 Very exciting to see it all coming together in Calgary. Looking forward to connecting with old and new friends. #rEDCalgary26

@JBradshaw01 @ArfinNathaniel Possibly some impact, but it's by far the most costly policy response. Very low "effect size" when it comes to improving student learning. Better to reform student behaviour practices and invest in attendance counsellors

@Jo_AnnDavis @TorontoStar Touche! Collecting data and following the data to implement corrective policy are two different things. If only you and I were in charge...Wait a minute. We'd have to find a common strategy. Alas, it would have been fun and lively serving on a school board with you. (Smiling)

@Educhatter @TorontoStar Another - Normalized violence: Over 70% of Ontario teens have experienced or witnessed violence in the classroom - up dramatically under Ford. Why are are school "climate" surveys optional under Bill 101 when they helped surface this troubling data? It's reached crisis levels.

Normalized Absenteeism: Just 40 per cent of Ontario teens are meeting the attendance standard for high school — down from 60 per cent prior to the pandemic (@TorontoStar) Why did it take an Ontario reform initiative to surface this troubling data? It's reached crisis levels
