during the battle of towton in 1461, so many fleeing lancastrian soldiers were killed crossing this beck that their bodies piled up to form a bridge of bodies… it is said that the stream ran red with blood for days

If any politician told me to put on a skirt if I wanted access to his response to a mass shooting that story would have been filed to my editor within 10 minutes.
Ashley Parker@AshleyRParker

Like anyone who’s spent any time around politics, I have many Lindsey Graham stories. This is perhaps my favorite… I was covering Congress (Best! Beat! Ever!) for the NYT when the Mother Emanuel shooting happened in Charleston. It was summer, but I was wearing pants and a sweater that day because it was always SO freezing in the Capitol. Anyhow, news of the shooting came down, and the DC Bureau chief called me with an order: Get yourself to Charleston ASAP and glue yourself to Graham’s side. She wanted a piece on the senator grappling with the unimaginable. So I headed straight to the airport, arriving in Charleston with just my backpack and what I’d be wearing to work that day, and linked up with Graham. He had me meet him at a restaurant, where I told him I needed to shadow him for the next 48 hours. And he looked at me, with amused distaste, and said: “You are sticky. And you are icky. If you want to shadow me, go buy some nice new clothes—maybe a dress—and take a shower, and then we’ll talk.” (He was not wrong; I was sweaty and gross). So I drove to a local big box store, bought a dress (he seemed to have a strong preference for a dress), and spent the next few days with him, resulting in this piece (which, for reasons not worth getting into, ended up being fairly different than the original assignment): nytimes.com/2015/06/20/us/…

Just ate caprese salad with fresh tomatoes ☠ and fresh basil ⚰🪦 because I'd rather die than let those groceries go to waste at today's tomato and herb prices 🤣

Integrity matters and our state and local Democrat leaders lack it. They continue to promise you affordability and safety during elections, then proceed to do the opposite once they are elected. They protect you only when it's convenient for them. Just look at what's happening in downtown Seattle now that the World Cup has left. Take Gov. Bob Ferguson: He repeatedly promised not to raise taxes and that he would exercise fiscal restraint in the 2024 election, and then he signs back-to-back budgets with the largest tax increases in state history in 2025 and 2026. And he signed the millionaire's tax, but is staffing that office so it can be applied to everyone. Take WA Democrat Legislators: Many promised improved public safety in 2024, only then to reduce penalties for sex offenders and those committing violent crimes right after. The same old story. Take AG Nick Brown: He promised to uphold our state constitution, yet public records from The Center Square confirm he sought to undermine it by colluding to pass an unconstitutional income tax, while eroding our constitutional rights in many respects simultaneously. I could go on and on. Democrat leaders completely lack integrity. No wonder why so many feel disillusioned and anger towards their state and local governments. They are not working for you. It’s time to work to elect leaders with integrity: Those who will do what say and say what they mean. Integrity matters. Let’s bring it back to local & state government.

@eeeeow It seems weird to me that so much of the guidance I’ve seen lately says “wash produce“ when everything I’ve read about cyclosporiasis specifically says that it resists being washed away and you need to cook it to kill it

Love how little guidance we're getting about the produce parasite "oh just make sure you rub the vegetable while washing it!" that doesn't sound foolproof exactly!! Parsley and cilantro aren't safe either, should I just pass away right now??
