@efdchief3 Of course they have a place. No one said they didn't. I said we should highlight extraordinary efforts like the ones we give medals for. Take the names out like we do LODD reports and I bet it makes an impact.

If we had "great grabs" or "solid knock" reports like we do close calls or LODD reports I think there would be less hesitancy or fear on the fireground. Of course folks are scared to make decisions, we've programmed them to be.

@Kiel_Samsing Medal Days are for performance above and beyond I collect read and share FDNYs medal day book every year for examples of what our profession means. The bottom line agree or disagree is NIOSH reports and AARs have a place it’s how you absorb the lessons

“Fingers of smoke.” Understanding fire and smoke behavior tells us that it takes a lot of pressure to force smoke out of small openings. Knowing this tells us that there is likely fire nearby. Finding fire in these voids can often be the key to winning or losing legacy fires.
