@smehorn I used to mark [sic] until I came across the “quietly correct” option in the style guide, which made me think 1) it feels like a jab on my part to [sic] someone’s mistake and 2) I really hope people quietly correct my inevitable errors.

One of my pet peeves is when authors don’t “quietly correct” quotes that have obvious mistakes (per Chicago Manual of Style, 17th ed., §13.7) and, instead, opt for [sic]. Why distract your own readers with such small mistakes?

Last night, two male colleagues belittled the work I put into my PhD thesis, implying I wouldn’t actually complete the degree, and followed it up by pointing out that another male colleague present had his JD. Neither have a post-grad degree.

@nick_elder I touch on this in my thesis. I’m really interested to read your take on the relationship to ancient novels.

Writing is so fun because one moment you’re writing on John 21:25, the next a brief history of the epilogue “That’s All, Folks!” in Looney Tunes, then on Ferris’s post-credit reappearance in _Ferris Bueller’s Day Off_ (1986), and then on the endings of Greek romance novels.

I call this one “The Delirious Joy of Editing and Editing and Editing and Editing…”

I think bc I went into bib stud so late in life, I've always tried to hide my age. Bc it has been really difficult 2 b over a decade older than my peers...2 have gotten such a late start at something so demanding as academia, something that takes so long to establish. /1
