My exit poll! As I leave #Bengal, it would be a disservice not to say this: I have come to deeply admire the way women inhabit space here. There is a quiet, almost subconscious elevation of women as independent beings . something that stands in stark contrast to the entrenched misogyny that still finds resonance across much of northern India. Perhaps it stems from a cultural understanding of shakti. A form of empowerment that manifests here in ways both subtle and profound, unlike anywhere else in the country, even in the south. Any woman journalist who has covered political rallies across India will recognize the difference immediately. Other states, a crowd is not just a logistical challenge, it carries risk. the inevitability of wandering hands, the violation masked by chaos. Here, the crowds are no less dense, the air no less heavy with sweat and alcohol—but the hands, for the most part, do not grope. Men step aside to make way. When contact happens, as it inevitably does in chaos, there is visible embarrassment rather than entitlement. What you encounter is not chivalry, but something far rarer: equality. And equality feels far more meaningful. Was never a fan of chivalry in any case :) There is more. Women politicians across party lines campaign with a striking freedom, aggressive, sharp, unapologetically irreverent, often using what would elsewhere be labelled as ‘masculine’ rhetoric. In most states, such behaviour would invite judgment, even censure. Here, it is met with acceptance, applause. What feels liberating to an outsider is, in Bengal, simply normal. What we frame as empowerment here is a cultural undercurrent. I have covered four elections in this state, and each time I have returned with the same sense of awe. Bengal, meanwhile, ambles on with a certain bemusement, as if unaware of what sets it apart. But it is a big deal. And perhaps the most remarkable part is that Bengal does not think so. Governments will come and go. One can only hope that this constant endures, not just how Bengal sees its women, but how, in many ways, it doesn’t. ♥️♥️♥️

CHEETAHS:
Declared extinct in 1952, the Cheetah returned under Project Cheetah, a historic intercontinental translocation. Starting with 8, brought from Namibia in 2022, successful births on Indian soil have seen a rise to 57 by 2026. This restores a missing link in our grassland ecosystem.
TIGERS: The Great Indian Miracle (160.95% Growth)
In 2006, India’s Tiger population hit a record low of 1,411. Through the National Tiger Conservation Authority and strict anti-poaching measures, we turned the tide. By 2022, that number soared to 3,682, meaning India now houses 70% of the global wild tiger population. Using cutting-edge tech like M-STrIPES and voluntary village relocations, India proved that economic development and apex predator conservation can coexist.
ASIATIC LIONS: The Pride of Gujarat (From 327 to 891)
Restricted to the Gir Forests, Asiatic Lions faced a dangerous bottleneck with just 327 individuals in 2000. However, through the "Maldhari" community co-existence model and world-class veterinary care, we witnessed a steady ascent. The population rose to 674 in 2020 and is estimated to reach 891 in 2025. We have effectively pulled the King of the Jungle back from the edge of extinction.
LEOPARDS: The Silent Expansion (Dominating at 13,874)
Leopard's growth has exploded from 7,910 in 2014 to a massive 13,874 in 2022. By robustly protecting Tiger Reserves, we created an "umbrella effect" that secured the leopard's future across 70% of sampled habitats. India’s strategy focuses on conflict mitigation and rapid response teams, allowing these adaptable predators to thrive without major ecological friction.
SNOW LEOPARDS: Guardians of the Third Pole (718 Strong)
In 2024, the first-ever scientific assessment (SPAI) confirmed a population of 718 Snow Leopards. This is a monumental achievement in the Himalayas. "Project Snow Leopard" succeeded by prioritising community-based conservation, working with herders to predator-proof corrals and preventing retaliatory killings. This secures the ecology of the "Third Pole," the source of India's major rivers.
India is now the only country to host Tigers, Lions, Leopards, Snow Leopards, and Cheetahs in the wild. This data proves that when India decides to protect, nature thrives.

Upadhyay: ECI has plenary powers. But states also need to co-operate. Notice is needed
CJI: ECI needs to give us a reply and if state does not help or finance ministry does not pass budget then again we can be approached. But issuing notice at this stage is not needed

CJI: The prayers cannot be considered for the upcoming elections. But whether such a recourse deserves to be followed for next parliamentary elections or state polls needs to be examined. Issue notice.

India has been a pioneer for rights of transgender & gender-diverse people. This Bill will have far-reaching impacts on right to privacy & risk marginalisation of transgender people.

Forget courts,even one IAS officer across Telangana won’t second justification for not demolishing Fathima College in Salkam Cheruvu. Looks like #HYDRAA questioning the credibility of IAS officers & MRO officers worked in administrative capacity to protect Govt lands. #IPSvsIAS
